Do not let the bad reviews intimidate you. They are not really up to date. The new owners did not bother to change the name of the place and thus they inherited the bad reviews from the previous owner (they moved in at the end of 2015 if I remember correctly).The food is truly amazing (I would not be surprised if the chef gets a Michelin star in the coming years), the service is friendly. It's just the husband (in the kitchen) and wife (in the dining room) so service might be considered a little bit slow by some people. But the food really is worth it!We had originally planned on eating at the best-ranked restaurant in La Roque Gageac but we did not have a reservation so we had to reschedule...
Ce restaurant est tenu par un jeune couple prometteur. Nous nous sommes rendu à ce restaurant en hiver, c'était l'un des seuls, vous le seul restaurant ouvert du village. On sent que ce couple fait vivre le village, apportant une cuisine de tradition accompagnée d'une touche de moderne/fusion.Le restaurant ce situe cependant sur un segment assez ambigu: entre le moyen gamme et le haut de gamme. Ainsi, la cuisine est très bonne mais pourrait être davantage travaillée afin de rentrer dans la catégorie "cuisine gastronomique". Le chef est sans aucun doute prometteur et une augmentation de gamme lui sera sans aucun doute bénéfique.Petit bémol pour les desserts: pas assez gourmands, sans intérêt...
After 36 years, owner and Chef Marc-Pierre Walker retired and closed his restaurant at the end of December 2016. He then decided to refurbish the restaurant and adjacent auberge into a holiday home with 3 double bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and dining room overlooking the Dordogne along with a lounge which also has views over the river. Today La Plume d'oie welcomes travellers from around the world who want to rent a home by the week. This was explained to me during my recent visit to La Roque-Gageac, and is also explained on their website. The restaurant and its Chef will be missed!
Intimate dining room with very attentive and polite staff. The wine list was excellent and the choice of wines by the glass had very good choices to complement any item on the menu. The food was outstanding. I would definitely return for another meal if I were in the region again.
