Let’s start with the positives, location is very central to the square and has a nice view of the local church. However please don’t be influenced by this, as i will describe later the service left much to be desired we arrived here as a member of our family is a fussy eater and wanted pizza at the start there were no outstanding issues and it was relatively relaxing the waitress came over and took our order and we got some drinks but after about 45 minutes with no food we started to wonder if they had put our order i to the kitchen but due to the lack of staff we struggled to ask anyone 15 minutes rolled by and finally the food arrived in total 1 hour for 4 pizzas that were nothing to write...
Ok...they do hold a prime location in the square, but feel the prices charged for the quality of food is over the top. We arrived at 2.30 on a saturday afternoon to be told they dont serve food till 6pm....but the waiter said he could do us cheese on toast, which we accepted. The cheese on toast arrived warm not hot..but we were all hungry so all ate it. There were 3 of us and we also ordered 2 small beers and a water. The bill came to over €40 which we thought was over the top for 3 cheese on toasts and 3 small drinks (1 being water)...in what really is just a roadside cafe. Fair play to the waiter for getting us some food, but at 9 euros for cheese on toast I dont think we will be back.
Went in for lunch later than most, around 1 15ish, so nearly all tables already taken with clients well into their lunch. Found a couple of seats and were served quite quickly, and food arrived promptly as well. Not fine dining, just good honest French regional cooking, at a reasonable price, and decent selection of beers. What's not to like?
Due to malfunction of the campervan we arrived in the little village Peronne, important in the Great War as we learned afterwards. So we stayed in BW St Claude and around the corner is Brasserie Central. My advice : GO! Good food, good service and you can sit inside as well outside. When the bill arrives your wallet will smile
Quick lunch Monday 16 August 2022. I liked the dish of the marina day with gambas, salmon, smoked herring, toast, mayonnaise. and potatoes with oil. very well placed on the square, large terrace, indoor room. A very tonic boss. a rather tense atmosphere. A little unpleasant, but you can't always stay Zen! We'll be back!
There are several restaurants in Péronne, ranging from kebab shops to posh, expensive restaurants. Le Central provides standard French bistro meals at a reasonable price. It is easy to find (right on the main square) and is considerably cheaper than some of the competition just round the corner.
Its not a match made in heaven yet it is okay. The menu is partly pizza but there is also a large range of salads to order. As main dish I had lamb and it was very nice done.
8 of us descended on this on the off chance on Saturday night after a hard day touring the Battlefields. Glad we found it. The Pizzas were fantastic……try the Calzones
We always go here when in the Somme and never disappointed. A very busy, popular bistro. Excellent food and generous portions.
