I came here for my annual visit when I stop on the way to the UK from Portugal (it's just over half way....)I am always happy with Le Chai. Given putative gastronomic standards in France, this place probably wouldn't even get a basic entry in the Michelin guide. But this is a high quality place with a talented chef. You will rub shoulders with locals having a meal - or sitting at the bar for snacks and a drink - or tourists on the the cognac trail. The set menu is uninteresting but the a la carte has some excellent dishes - albeit at €16 a throw for starters and €25 to €30 for mains. difficult to find a restaurant in cognac, but by car we ended up falling on it. visually it is uneven: the interior is very beautiful with all the cognac bottles in the showcases, but the outdoor terrace lacks charm. dishes are not bad but are unnecessarily copied and accompanied by medium sauces in the mouth. Most importantly, the map is too much provided and sometimes lacks consistency (why do you propose molds from Mont Saint-Michel while those of the bay of the iguillon are accessible in the neighbouring department?). nothing to say, however, regarding the quality of the service in the room, warm and efficient. Anyway, it's good, but it could be even better with no big deal more!
Friendly staff and good plat du jour menu. House wine was very good value. Issue which makes this less than top rating was that one of the starters, Concombre farci, used very bitter concombre, spoiling the starter and the Gazpacho was not very tasty. Service was slow but not a big problem as we were not in a rush.
Lunch on the occasion of a stage in Cognac.Nice cold but not very warm neither...Cuisine sought after and tasty. ratio quality correct price.Very cheap wine considering the quality of the wines offered.

a very good value for money, an imaginative cuisine without excesses, quite a copyful portions, well-trained plates. It's the second time we eat there, and we'll go back.
we went back to the choir for a meal with friends for a wedding anniversary, as usual everything was perfect as well as the meal as the service. a redo without moderation
excellent service, typical dishes and fresh products. fried mussels are to fall, and the cream burnt with pistachio will come to you.
We spent a meal full of great flavors. everything is done home and the staff is pleasant. I recommend this restaurant.
