We finally got to visit the new location (Granby St just before the Riverview bridge) and we love the space. The inside is upscale casual with some cool eccentric pieces (like an elk horn chandelier). We sat in the bar area at a high top. We were near the kitchen and no issues with smoke or noise levels. Our servers were great and made sure to be considerate about their recommendations and pairing options. We started with the shishito peppers and tuna Crudo. After seeing this place ranked #61 on Yelp's national Top 100 Burgers list, I decided to stop by as it was conveniently located nearby. The parking situation was a bit challenging with a small lot and limited street parking, so be prepared for that. However, once inside, the ambiance was really nice. I sat at the bar solo with a mission to try their renowned burger. ABC license in hand brought a full house on Sat pm. Fortunately, they accommodated our party of 4 as a walk-in. Paper plane drink was sneaky good. Oysters, beet salad, and pimento apps were all 5/5, especially getting them fresh. Of course, my wife and I enjoyed burgers while friends opted for Halibut and Steak entrees, both killer. The potato cake, served as a side with the steak, was mysteriously shaped but had an earthy, smokey flavor; texture was like tater tots. The meal didn 't disappoint, neither did the service. This restaurant is the best ever. Even though it's not located in Chicago or New York, I guarantee that if it were, they would be very successful. The menu is incredibly fresh, the drink options at the new location are great, and I have no doubt that their burger is the best in the universe. I have tried Au Cheval in Chicago, and I still think this restaurant is better. I wish I could eat here every night. I have never had less than an excellent meal at LeGrand and I've been going for every special occasion (birthday, promotions, etc) since I moved to Norfolk 5 years ago. I love the new location, too. The service is great and I find the new look relaxing and inviting. I'm excited to bring my kids soon to try the new kids menu.
Best restaurant in Norfolk/Hampton Roads by a mile, and perhaps my favorite in the country. Truly great every time. Whether you want something like their legendary (and inexpensive! burger, or the braised short rib, or my favorite the fresh catch and Parisian gnocchi, it's guaranteed to be great. Do not leave without ordering the toffee cornbread pudding.
Amazing food and service! The pork belly I had was amazing! I can't wait to go back and try the burger. I'm so glad they managed to find a new location. The menu is seasonal, but there's always something new to try. The menu items are customizable too.
