Decided to stop in with my family of 5 on the trip from Philadelphia to Asheville, NC. We always try to find regional BBQ places like Lexington BBQ. We could not have been more thrilled with our meal and service. We had been driving for 7 hours and came in hungry and cranky. We started off with a variety of menu items but quickly fell in love with the coarse chopped/dark BBQ. We enjoyed the coarse chopped so much so we ordered two more trays. We also asked for extra BBQ sauce on the side, which was served warm in a coffee cup. Great for dipping my sandwich in. Nothing but a positive experience at Lexington BBQ. Great with food, served by great people. We all left 100% happy and full.
If you from this part of North Carolina you might enjoy this place. I had a lot of good input from friends when I told them I was going to this area. Being from further south, my taste is for a tomato based BBQ. So for me it was just okay, so was the sweet tea. Try it for yourself, maybe you will think differently.
When I googled this restaurant and it said top 10 in the country I went in with very high hopes. The pork was dry, there was 0 smoke flavor, and the portions were disappointing. Coleslaw was good and so were the hushpuppies. Service was spectacular. Probably won 't be returning.
The food is outstanding. I’m a pitmaster myself and a military veteran and this barbecue specially with the two different types of sauce is outstanding Mr. Monk and his crew have their stuff together when it comes to barbecue three generations of barbecue in front of your nose. Terrific! The barbecue had plenty of smoked flavor and enough skin to make it even better. The hush puppies were flavorful and crispy. I got here at around 11 on a Saturday and by the time I was done, the dining room and parking lot were full. I will look forward to returning.
By far the BEST Of this style BBQ!!!! Everyone has a favorite “Style” , eastern. Western, mid western, etc…….. try it….. you will never want another substitute!!!
Hush puppies, fries, onion rings, sauce all excellent. Coarse chopped pork good. Friendly staff, good value. All in all a must stop.
