We were quickly welcomed and assisted, and our waitress was both friendly and sassy, skillfully adding a touch of playful banter that made the experience even more enjoyable. The owner even stopped by to throw some good-natured jabs at us non-locals, which contributed to the lighthearted ambiance. We started with a beer and some fried pickles—just a heads up, they don’t serve draft beer here. The pickles had a nice kick and were wonderfully crunchy. For our main course, we ordered a couple of burgers cooked on the outdoor BBQ, which gave them a delicious charred flavor. One word to describe this place... Welcoming. I arrived into town late Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend and most of the restaurants had closed. The kind lady over heard me asking about diner and she asked me what I was looking for. I told her I was not picky. Next thing I know I have a beer and a plate of Stuffed shells, cucumber salad and one the best Anti-pasta I have ever had. The shells were also delicious and the two bartenders found me a nice Stout from here in Montana. Folks, this is the hospitality I can only hope for when I arrive in a new location. Despite not having beer on tap (they do offer Coldsmoke Scotch Ale in cans!), everything about Longbranch Saloon was outstanding. It was a quiet late Friday afternoon, with only two locals at the bar who happily joined in our conversation. Our server, Big Momma, made the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant has a new chef who, in my opinion, makes the best chicken wings ever! We also tried the mushrooms, which were delicious, and shared the special Curry Shepherd's Pie, complete with creamy mashed potatoes and just the right amount of ground meat and vegetables, all infused with a lovely curry flavor. Quaint little old-timey saloon, somewhere between a family-friendly tourist trap and a biker bar. Came here with my sis on a Sunday night in July, and there wasn 't much going on. We sat at the bar and had drinks, plus shared a steak sandwich. There 's a full-on restaurant in the back, but we preferred the ambiance of the bar. Bartender was cool, and did shots with the cook/owner and the hostess right in front of us. Low-key and unpretentious vibe, not overly family-friendly but also not too hardcore. A real surprise. Old time bar up front, restaurant has tables that look like they came out of a roadside breakfast place from 1970 with white paper table cloths that came off a roll. Stop there..... The steaks are absolutely fantastic! Cooked perfectly over a wood fire. Not cheap but worth every penny. Bean soup was excellent and salad was large and very well dressed. Large selection of bottled beers nothing on tap. If your not in a hurry and want a stupidly good steak not a place to miss!
Good fun and drinks, and met some neat younger adults. Big momma poured some killer drinks, kept our glasses full. I think this is the only bar that stays open later, good for us late arriving to town travelers. Also a nice easy walk from our Riverside hotel. Will keep on our lists to revisit, and bring fly rods for you anglers.
Without a doubt, this is the best steak I've ever had in my 53 years! Big Mama makes you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. The drinks are half the price of those in Bozeman, and the food is far superior to what you’d find in five-star restaurants in NYC!
