This restaurant is a complete joke! I went once and had a pleasant experience...but will NEVER return! Mamma Luisa staff believe their establishment is of the same quality as a New York restaurant and the truth is..they're not even close. On top of that, their staff is beyond rude! After having to cancel due to an emergency (being robbed), we were told we were still going to have our card charged for not showing up. Well here is the photo proof! The host was so unbelievably rude...I am still in shock. Do not make a reservation here! On the off chance you have to cancel, they'll rob you too!
the menu is more interesting than many Italian restaurants and eating is delicious. what distinguishes this restaurant is the location in a historical house. I have eaten several times on the first stage where it can be a bit loud when full. This week I sat for the first time in an upper floor with only 4 tables. in addition, as this restaurant is far down on the lower thames street, it is not so familiar to many tourist, which means a reservation could be available in the high season too.
we often come to newport and after our opinion this is the best restaurant in the city that is a city with large restaurants. eating is perfect they try the butternut ravioli, or filled gnocci or the dates of the sole just to name a few favorites. the music is perfect- Italian opern and other beautiful soft sounds. the lighting is just right and the service is perfection. do not miss this jewel!
An amazing dining experience for sure. Everything was perfect. Atmosphere, food, service were everything I expect in a quality restaurant. I am very “picky” as to where I like to dine and Mama Luisa filled all the squares. I will now be a regular patron. Thank you for your attention to ALL the details of a fine dining experience. Bravo! We always go to Newport every September, have been thinking about going here for awhile and finally did! The food, spectacular, wine list was amazing and the staff were very friendly and inviting. This was a wonderful meal with superb food. Our waitress was very helpful and gave us good advice. The wine was also excellent. One minor problem was that we were initially offered a tiny table, but were then given another option which was much better. I would definitely go back and would recommend this restaurant highly.

the room was quirky, but welcoming, our server was wonderful and the eating delicious! I'm just sorry it took so long to try the restaurant. we're coming back!
