I visited with my wife, on the occasion of my birthday. We stepped into the restaurant 5 mins early for our reservation. Staff seemed to be going in all directions, making eye contact then walking away before I had a chance to say ‘hello, we have a booking’. Eventually, one staff member said ‘table for two?’ and started looking around as if to fit us in. I said that we had a booking, but there was no acknowledgment or this, or request of my name. We were given menus and sat down. We were sat there long enough to order our drinks along with our food. We recently had the pleasure of dining at Mantra Progressive in Bath. The restaurant focuses on providing a leisurely dining experience and serving delicious meals. The owner personally greeted and seated us, ensuring that each course was served slowly so that we could savor every bite of Northern Indian cuisine. He helped us choose dishes from the menu, and each one was fantastic. The cod appetizer and potato dosas were both tasty and light. I was very underwhelmed by Mantra after having it recommended by a friend. Their vegetarian dishes were lacking. The waiter forgot my wine whilst bringing cocktails for the rest of the table, and I had to remind them 10 mins later even though there was only one other group sat in the restaurant. I did not finish all of my food and the waiter commented on it multiple times, which made me uncomfortable. Basically, it wasn’t great, it wasn’t awful, but i’ve had better food and service elsewhere. If I came again it would be during the day for the view.
We were positioned in the basement because they were busy which was right next to an open kitchen and very warm. There was an area of stock items and boxes which didn’t need to be on show. The staff were lovely and chatty, food was very good. My only criticism is that the restaurant area and toilets/stairs/glass panels all needed a good clean! They knocked the service charge off the bill due to where they had to seat us but a service charge is discretionary anyway….

Visited Mantra in January 2024 and the staff were unbelievablely helpful, finding us a table on a busy Saturday night. The food and drink we ordered was perfect and accompanied by attentive service. Cannot overstate how delicious the jalfrezi was. Even though we were sat near a very loud and obnoxious group, the staff dealt brilliantly with them, it did not affect our experience at all. Amazing all round, big up Malvika.
The food and service at this restaurant were both excellent, receiving a 5 out of 5 rating. However, I was disappointed to learn from a staff member that none of the service charge is shared among the staff and is kept by the owner. This practice is outrageous and I would recommend enjoying the food but not paying the service charge.
We were welcomed from the start, friendly staff, not rushed, asked how we wanted our food brought out, food was hot and tasted fantastic, starters great, and the main was probably the best mains we have ever had, I’m not local but if I was this would be my go to restaurant every time, 5 out of 5 on every bit of the evening
The Indian cuisine at this restaurant is excellent, with a variety of delicious vegetarian options. We recommend ordering three of the smaller-sized curries for a satisfying meal for two, along with some poppadoms to start.

It was literally plain pilao rice with dry chicken. Received the food cold therefore did not enjoy at all. It did not taste like biryani at all which was very highly disappointing
Great food, better than great service! We will come back for sure! Highly recommended for people with kids.
