I would recommend avoiding this restaurant. It was empty while everywhere else was full for a reason. The drinks were subpar, with ginger beer served from a 2-liter bottle behind the bar and being flat. The steaks were drowned in a watery sauce and not cooked to the requested level, making them rubbery and not worth the high price. Three out of four main dishes were sent back for being undercooked. The sides of boiled potatoes and frozen broccoli did not justify the high price tag. The meal lacked mushrooms and tomatoes. Desserts were mediocre at best. The atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. Overall, we were left disappointed and went to a nearby bar for better food. We regretted canceling...
pleasantly surprised by our dinner here. by average reviews, we were a little skeptical, how much we could possibly enjoy the meal. but my escape in grand marnier sauce was delicious! foliage with a smooth, rich sauce. cook more at home than chic French cuisine, but still enjoyed it. the personal we are very accommodating and the view of victoria st was impressive. beautiful place to spend a balmy edinburgh evening. want to see a few more options on the menu and inside is a spruce required, but outside the restaurant is a winner.
beautiful - especially outside. the four of us had a great meal at maxie’s! the advice of others conquered and then went directly back to the relatiw quiet balcony with view of the lower road. service is a type of onefall-as-catch-can affair, but all very friendly. haggis, nips and tatties were delicious. spicy enchilada delicious. scottish salmon very good. we also went back for a quick bump before a whiskey tour and had a quiet seat inside.
Walk down the Stairs past lautrec-style painted posters into a comfortabke and warm ambuanc and the sounds of jamie cullum or miles davis Eclectic french bistro inspired menu, a good wine list, relaxed but prompt service and you gave the ingredients of a relaxed and convivial night out. Handy for several old-town events during the festival, and just off the top of the Royal Mile.

Best Fish and Chips in Scotland! Outstanding balcony views of Edinburgh city scape. Extremely friendly staff have us lots of local insight and just a lovely place to sit and relax. A must see when visiting Edinburgh, it sits above JK Rowling's inspiration for Diagonally!
Absolutely lovely my husband our four year old daughter and I popped in here today for some food and it was yummy. I had read mixed reviews actually while sitting waiting for our food but we had absolutely nothing to fret food was delicious we will be back soon.
next to the service we had a great night here. the food and drinks were good and filled. a mixed bag fish and chips, pasta, seafood and the drinks were also good! pity that the service was so uninspired. it was as if they weren't afraid.
very good quality price relationship. the fish and the chips are quite famous, the winner of several trips, and it's really easy to say why: good vegetarian options and a good selection of bottle beer. will have come back to any

Lovely restaurant with a traditional feel. Delicious food and very helpful and friendly staff. We had the fish and chips and fried mushrooms and we thoroughly enjoyed everything.
Had a decent portion of seafood linguini, my friends had other meals that were also fine and reasonably priced for center of the city.
