If you live in Melbourne, this will be one of your best experiences of Ethiopian cuisines. The culinary signature is certainly unique; they serve the tray with the different and unique Ethiopian bread, injera, which is made with teff, a tiny, round grain that flourishes in the highlands of Ethiopia. It is very nutritious and it contains practically no gluten! The staff is very friendly and familiar with the cuisines. The music was no too loud and it’s family friendly as well as suitable for dates. Thanks to an old colleague who introduced the place, we tried beef Sambosa, a lamb dish and their signature Ethiopian cuisine Doro Wot.
The food was delicious and the service was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter was so friendly and took the time to explain the dishes to us as it was our first time and showed us the traditional way they eat it. We had the sambosas and peppers as the starters and for mains the chicken, lamb with collard greens, yellow lentils and beetroot dish which were all very tasty. My favourite was the creamy lentils paired with the Injera flat bread. The bread was soft and tender and was slightly tangy. The honey wine was also sweet and delicious pairing to go with the meal. Would definitely go again and try their other platters!
We came here on recommendations and Mesob totally lived up to the expectations. The diverse menu gave herbivores and carnivores plenty to choose from. We ordered the Herbivore Platter. Instead of getting only 3 or 4 of the vegetarian dishes, we got to sample a bit of everything. Loved how they laid out the platter so that we could eat together with that community feeling but had our own corner to mess up. The place was filled on a Tuesday night in mid-December. Really appreciated that staff smiled at every interaction, including acknowledgement that we need to wait. A great experience that's worth repeating.
Okay, maybe I am biased because I LOVE Ethiopian food.....but, you have to eat here. The food at Mesob is absolutely brilliant and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. From Northcote, it is quite a drive to the next best Ethiopian food in Melbourne. I highly recommend supporting this Northcote local you wont be disappointed. And if you have the time, don't forget to drop into The Bar Next Door (yeah literally) for a drink and to catch some amazing African tunes. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We had a shared platter and it was HUGH!! We didn't finish it. The first time we came we honestly did not like the food as much BUT we came back again and this time....we enjoyed our time here! I guess my palate has developed and started to like the soft-sour dough. The experiences we had here were new, fun, and yum!

If you have never tried Ethiopian then I highly recommend giving this place a go. The food is super tasty and generous in size. I promise you won't leave hungry. The atmosphere and service was also spot on. We'll be back again for sure.

Excellent Ethiopian food, one of the best in Melbourne. The menu has heaps of both vegetarian and meat options. Menu has shared platters as options of 3 types Vegetarian, Omnivore and Eat Like a King. A must try.
