we went here for my Husbands birthday, we had been here a while back and had a great meal. But this time we noticed it was not as good as last time.we made a booking and when we were greeted, and taken to the table we ordered some drinks. we asked him about the King-fish, he explained it and said it was very good.when they came to take the order, i asked for the King -Fish and was then told they did not have it. Not sure why he didn't let us know about that when we first asked. This place seems packed all the time, but maybe thats just because there are so many people on the coast now that need to eat somewhere.Tonight was borderline the worst service I've had on the Gold Coast (I can only think of one worse which I have reviewed). Just waiting and waiting every time you need anything. Can we have a menu? 10 mins for that to come. Can we order something next time you come past? 10 mins for that to happen. Nobody asks about another drink, about dessert. Just constantly having to prompt them to do stuff. Waited for 15 mins after asking for the bill and just had to get up and do it ourselves.On the food front, it's probably a 3/5 for Mexican so not terrible, not great...
Have been to Mexicali a few times and am always incredibly impressed with the food and the service. Having just been to Mexico myself, the moment I saw the food it took me straight back to the beautiful fresh food they create. The mix of dishes is amazing and although it's always crazy busy there is always seems to be a decent number of staff available and food and drinks arrive almost immediately. My two suggestions would be to try and get there as early as possible (as they don't take bookings for less than three people) and request an outdoor table as inside really heats up.
Eaten here at few times, different times of day too... a pleasure for a lunch time, service/music/flavour/air flow tick tick = just a pleasure.... Visited for a night, time and it was packed, music VERY loud, only one ceiling fan attempting to circulate the air... food still amazing, service still super quick.... just didn't enjoy yelling at my table friends...we were keen to finish up and leave, it actually spoilt the evening - loud and hot! After hearing raving reviews about this place I was expecting more. A few friends of ours tried the banquet option to try as many things as we could on the menu, however I feel like it missed the mark as I've tasted better Mexican on the coast. It does however have a fun, trendy vibe. The sangria was ok and the service was pretty good. I wouldn't be running back for the food though unfortunately. I've personally been to Mexico and the food is UNBELIEVABLE so it's not as authentic as what I was expecting.
The entrance is easy to miss, but inside the restaurant is lively and colourful, with indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, so it's a great place to visit with friends. The service was really quick (our tacos arrived before our cocktails!) and all the staff were friendly and attentive. The tacos were delicious and had a really authentic taste - I really liked the chicken taco. The 'Sweet Baby Jesus' cocktail was really fruity and full of flavour, and quite large which was great.
Been here a few times now but each time they just seem to miss the mark. We've tried most of the stuff off the menu and a definite must try are the jalepeno poppers
