We booked the restaurant due to its excellent star rating. Unfortunately it was a disappointing and frustrating experience. We waited 10 minutes at least at the doorway waiting to even be acknowledged and eventually seated. We could see alot of staff around but no one had even said hello. We had been there 1 hour and 15 minutes before receiving the main course and that was after asking how long it was going to be. 2 of us had a starter and afterwards a pizza and they were all good however 2 of us ordered pasta. We went on a busy Friday night for a surprise birthday party. Unfortunately our party of 8 people were seated upstairs where there is no atmosphere like the beautiful courtyard downstairs. The room was very noisy we could hardly hear each other. The staff were friendly but very busy looking after so many people. Needed more staff. The food was ok but must have been a miscommunication between waitress kitchen as 2 people ordered antipasto platter as entree we asked for all mains to come out after that had been eaten. Unfortunately 6 mains came out with the platter the 2 people who had the platter then had to wait for their mains eat them half an hour after rest of party had finished theirs. V...
We thought we were fortunate to secure a table for our large group without a reservation on a Friday night, and the reception was very welcoming. However, things went downhill after we were seated. Three different waiters indicated that our table had not been assigned to them. I called over one, who responded, “I’ll be with you in a second,” but then promptly walked away and never returned, instead taking orders from another table. It felt like he had forgotten us entirely. Eventually, we placed our orders, but when we requested a glass, the waiter informed us that they only had one available. We had to remind three different waiters before we finally received the glass we requested.
the risotto was bland and watery and the lasagne was sloppy and too salty and oily. the presentation was terrible and both meal times were seriously overpriced. there were many thanks to us for our constructive comments, but when we rejected a possible free dessert, no other compensation was offered. we were told by the cook that this is how he does it and so it is in the round. we have eaten in italia, including sicily and sardinia, in detail and Italian food in many other world locations and in carlton and others sharing by melbourne and never felt so disappointed at one of our favorite cuisines. gothic, because the staff is quite nice and the setting very pleasant.

Our experience was quite average, and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. We chose it to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday, hoping for a fun and enjoyable time, but it turned out to be quite the opposite. While other reviews on Google suggest that the staff makes an effort for special occasions, we didn't receive any of that attention. Our waitress seemed disinterested and was very cold towards us. After we paid the bill, her demeanor changed completely; she didn't offer any thanks or birthday wishes and just walked away. Also, be prepared to pay extra if you want bread with your $32 antipasti.
In a stunning setting, the dining experience was exceptional, and the service was outstanding. It's advisable to make a reservation in advance, as the place tends to get very busy. Overall, I would rate the food 5/5, the service 5/5, and the atmosphere 5/5. Highly recommended!
only disappointed. I had seen and heard the big reviews. it doesn't matter to pay a premium for good eating, but the prices and eating didn't agree. bland main course and quite terrible panacota. do not go back or recommend them to others.
I was on the lookout for a new Italian restaurant to try and Olive and Angelo fit the bill. Great food at great prices.
