We had been recommended this place by friends and finally visited last night. We thought we would stop in for a drink and move on to dinner elsewhere... we stayed!!!This is above a very well known family restaurant in North Carlton that closed sometime ago, on the cnr of Reid and Nicholson St. The entrance is in Reid st, upstairs.We were really impressed by the ambience, the staff and the wine list, lots by the glass and the staff are very knowledgable.The food we ordered we would call tapas: small bites, beautifully made and presented. I went to the Neighbourhood Wine in Fitzroy on Saturday 22 April. There were five of us. I started with three raw oysters and two of them eventually worked. We shared the shared plates as you should. We tried the three sweet dishes and shared these around. I avoided the cream dish while the other two were delicious.At the end of the night the bill came to $400 or $80 each. Very reasonable for the food and drinks involved. Needed to take the UBER home. A great experience and the best restaurant visited on this trip.

Wasn't overly impressed. Not suitable for a business meeting. Music too loud. Waiting staff remove dishes before they are complete, even when restaurant was empty. Food was ok but at the price point there are so many other options available. Primary virtue is it was Only place open Monday afternoon. Seriously overpriced wine list from overseas - who knows if they are good value or not? Won't be back. Disappointed .

Apparently an ex-speakeasy, hidden on the first floor with an entrance on a side street. Fabulous room with lots of different areas to choose from. Very good wine list and a good often changing menu. Friendly staff and a very relaxed feel. Can get too loud with the music sometimes though, so unnecessary! Definitely a place to try and good to bring out-of-town visitors. As a group of nine we had the private room and the set course menu - could not be faulted.Location, ambience and the knowledge and service of the staff plus the extensive wine list all helped make for a very pleasant evening.The servings of vegetables, pate, meat and fish were all excellent.We will be back.

Loved the Underbelly hangout story aka illegal gambling den from Alfonso gangetano. Ask the waiters. Nice living room style, wooden floors, old decor, cosy hangout. Fantastic selection of wines, good food and a very pleasant night all around. Will come back.

Lunch with adult children - vegetarian and carnivore - everyone happy - great cocktail to start - limited menu but everything we had was excellent with special Sunday roast a hit as well as vego option gnocchi. Casual cool - good atmosphere - fab wine

Attended this glam ex-80's gambling den for dinner and drinks. What a great vibe it had and love the decor. The staff were very friendly and helpful with wine and food selection, all of which was so lovely. Highly recommend neighborhood wine. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch

We had a great meal here last night with my wife and son for his birthday. Food and service was very good. I imagine it gets bit noisy later in the evening but lots of room for various types of clientele to spread out.

Food and service are both excellent. Really relaxed, and cosy atmosphere. Definitely recommend making a booking as this place is always busy, especially on weekends. Highly recommend the duck liver parfait, and steak.
