I was visiting St John's and had heard great things about Peaceful Loft, so we visited on our first night. So happy we did - the food and service was truly amazing! I've travelled to 49 countries and this place is by far the best Chinese food I have had anywhere! Started off with complimentary homemade sauces, soup, and tea. Then we had a pork bun, Hong Kong Noodles, and Singapore Noodles. The seitan pork in the Singapore Noodles was seriously incredible. This restaurant is a tiny heaven on earth. I have tried the vast majority of the menu by now and have yet to find a single item I don't love. The kind man serving the food is also the owner and the only front of house staff member. His hard work is humbling, his service is heartwarming and I look forward to his company/chats equally as much as the food. I eat here almost weekly and it would be unquestionably one of the pieces of St. John's I would miss most if I were to leave the province.If you live in the city and haven't yet eaten at The Peaceful Loft, I'm questioning your life choices.Cheers, and here is a picture of the "pork and duck" platter :)
St. John's has never had a great selection of good Chinese restaurants, adequate Chinese/Canadian food at best. But the Peaceful Loft has changed that. Flavourful, fresh food, made to order. They will adjust to your taste. While it is vegan, meat-eaters really won't notice much; the fake chicken has a different texture than real chicken and is moister than most restaurant chicken, the fake pork is indistinguishable from most pork you get in Chinese restaurants except that it is moister. The food is spiced enough that the flavour of the meatless-meat is beside the point.Well worth a visit unless you expect fast-food (in both senses of the term).
This is a restaurant owned by a family that genuinely values the quality of their food. The small dining room is covered in colouful, hand-drawn posters, creating such a friendly environment. The server was welcoming and more than happy to tell stories during the wait. The food arrived dish by dish and each was amazing! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone including non-vegetarians/vegans!

Went here on a layover in St John's and it was delicious! I had the BBQ "duck" and "pork". The sauces were home made, and the service was so friendly. Very welcoming comfortable environment. Some of the best, if not the best, vegan Chinese food I've ever had. Only one person cooking in the back and one serving in the front, so don't expect lighting speed, but very well worth it!
It is no easy feat to get vegan (or vegetarian) in St. John's but this place is really exception. No frills on the inside, but the owners are warm and big hearted and really put that into their food. We absolutely loved it, it was healthy and delicious. I'd definitely come back again. A real treat and could be in any city in the world.
Stopped in for dinner, and was amazed. The older gentleman is so kind and quick to refill any sauces ( home made, so good !) and to refill your drink ( endless green tea ! ) I had a noodle dish, and some bread balls. So tasty, will be going back before I head home !
Excellent food prepared with care. Tea is brought from the owner's hometown in Macau. Great hospitality and affordable healthy, fresh food.
