I had the pleasure of eating at the Penfolds Magill Estate last Saturday and I wanted to take the time to write a review about my amazing experience. Firstly, the reservations team both Hannah and Narelle were lovely – My boyfriend and I had planned to fly into Adelaide for the degustation experience for his birthday and they were able to accommodate a time even through originally there were was no seating. This is a bit of a different review. I had the opportunity to eat at Tasting Australia's Glasshouse Kitchen: Rivers and Seas. As I can't review chef Scott Huggins dish anywhere else, I'm parking it here. Southern Rock Lobster with shiso and daikon. The daikon was served over the rock lobster like a sheet. It looked quite elegant, I almost didn't want to disturb it. It was rock lobster, who am I kidding? Such a gorgeous spot! A must dine at when in SA.<br/ The Degustation $190) had more dishes than originally thought about 15 with several initial dishes. My stand outs were the crispy skin chicken tarts, the cos lettuce, blue cheese chou, chocolate fed beef waygu $35 extra) and the yoghurt palette cleanser.<br/ <br/ The duck is a major tough disappointment and dessert was average. <br/ <br/ Wine pairing was $110 extra) <br/ Overall I will recommend and keen to try to kitchen next time. The degustation meal was delicious. Every dish was amazing. I particularly enjoyed the mayura beef. The bread and butter is also fantastic, making it hard to resist eating it continuously. I had the sommelier's wine match and my partner had the non-alcoholic match which were also great. The service was faultless and my partner and I had a very enjoyable evening. Very very pricey but definitely worth the experience.
The setting is just quintessential Adelaide. I love the simplicity of this place. It's the classiest joint in all of Adelaide in my opinion. If you are a visitor to Adelaide this is a must visit because it's iconic and beautiful. Menu is first class, service was sincere and attentive and the wine list is as good as you'll fine anywhere in the world.
