Our last experience at the Pickle Barrel at Markville was so bad that we will never go there again. We have been there a few times in the past and while we have always had to wait for a host/hostess to wander up to the front to seat us, we generally have not had issues with the food even though service always tends to be slow there....both with seating and then with getting the order to our table. It is not unusual for there to be a lineup of customers waiting to be seated because the host/hostess is no where to be seen.We went for lunch on our last visit and the wait to be seated was only about 5 mins before the hostess came around the front. Hit or Miss. Today was a big miss. Slow service, cold fries, order glow bowl no nuts and the dish was full of them. Service was incredibly slow. Entrees took over 30mins because we were waiting for macaroni poppers that didn't come. Fries were served cold on my fish and chips. My son's deli plate was served meat first wait 5 mins, wait 5 mins for bread, wait 2 mins for fries and mustard. Father's lobster linguini without lobster. Errr sorry my bad for lying. 2 scraps of lobster. Server did offer an appetizer to me while I gave my cold fires to my daughter waiting for her salad to be re made, but didn't really want to risk any additional delays or mistakes. Normally Pickle Barrel is a standard meal, not particularly good but still a convenient place to get a burger that isn't fast food. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is always bustling with activity, giving off a casual vibe. It's good value for the food your getting. I ordered the standard burger, lettuce, tomato, the usual. When I opened my burger to assemble it better (like any burger it was slightly messy) and to my surprise found a bug! It was green and small but a bug none the less and, if I'm being honest, scared the bejeezus out of me! The staff were apologetic and brought me back another burger with no produce this time, but I must say, it's rather put me off going to Pickle...
Why is this one difficult? Everything about the experience was either great or terrible. Nothing was actually "average", but that was the only reasonable answer.The service table side and my steak was really good, and their version of a loaded baked potatoe was great! The deep-fried mac&cheese and my Canadian Club old fashioned were terrible, and the bartender wad incredibly slow at making it.The menu looks good, and the fact that some things were quite good means I will try it again in the future, but this experience was...confusing.

We went on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was Not crowded. It took a long time before our server came to take the drink order for our party of six, and even longer for our drinks to be brought to our table. When or dinner came, the mashed potatoes were cold. After asking for hot potatoes, we were brought another bowl of cold potatoes. While some of the food was ok, some in our party couldn't eat their meals. Definitely would not recommend Pickel Barrel.
We went during the busy May long weekend but had no trouble getting a table. The waitress was friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The food was well presented and flavourful. When they brought the salad instead of soup as we ordered, they told us to eat the salad "on the house" with the soup arriving shortly afterward. The mini desserts are perfect for tasting and sharing. The Markville Mall location was a great experience for us.
We were in the mall and, since we hadn't been to a Pickle Barrel in a long time, decided to go here. Seating is plentiful and spaced well. Service was fine amd our waitress pleasant.We noted that the menu had changed and was a little heavy for a lunch. We both had Montreal Smoked Meat which were good. The gravy on the poutine was a little too salty.All-in-all we would have to grade this as a satisfactory experience.
They served us they worst Horrible Calamari and Onion Rings. It was literally dripping in oil when it came to the table. When we told the waiter about it, he dismissed the entire conversation like it never happened. Overall awful service.

Food was very good. I had the Rueben sandwich with sweet potato fries. Waited quite a while from the time we ordered until we received our food. Could have been a little quicker as restaurant was not very busy at the time
We usually go to Pickle Barrel for Early Bird breakfast. I love it.Food is great and price is really awesome.
