A friendly welcome by Marcel, who showed us to a lovely table by the window. Queen Scallops with sausage accompanied a tasty sauce which my husband mopped up with St Jacques bread and whipped dill butter. I had cream cheese topped with tuna eggs and the lightest of delicious beignets. We followed this with whole flounder fish, which had been well seasoned and came with caper sauce. The wine was a great Cotes du Rhône red GSM, organic wine, reasonably price. The crème caramel was superb. Service and friendliness of both owner Nick and Marcel were great and we wish them and the rest of the staff every success. There is also a private dinning area in the wine cellar. I love French food wine and Bistro St Jacque in Redfern delivers such quality on both fronts. The food is first class delivered with charm understated confidence. Coquilles St Jacques Scallops for Entrée was hearty, balanced moreish..matched beautifully with a stunning Chardonnay from the Macon. For main I thoroughly enjoyed a pan roasted Pork Cutlet with reduced Dijon sauce an apple walnut salad. This dish was outstanding!! All flavours were sublime thoughtful..matched with a juicy dark cherry style Syrah/Grenache blend from the Languedoc!! I Feel very lucky to have a restaurant of this calibre in y neighborhood can't wait to go back!! Sensational!
This restaurant is a true taste of France in Sydney. We couldn't resist trying the Coquilles St Jacques at Bistrot St Jacques, and we were beyond satisfied. The olives were just as delicious, if not better, than the ones I had in the Côte d'Azur. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy as requested. The waiter recommended a unique mushroom salad instead of the typical green salad, and it paired wonderfully with the meal. And of course, the desserts were heavenly. I would eagerly return for another meal at Bistrot St Jacques today.
While visiting Sydney is often a trial compared to the relative tranquility of the Southern Highlands, our regular visits to Bistro St Jacques make it all worthwhile and yesterday's experience was no different. The steak frite is invariably wonderful and the wine list comprehensive and excellent. The ambience is warm and casual while the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Not to be missed and we are looking forward to our next trip.
