We placed an online order for pick-up and arrived five minutes early. However, we ended up waiting and waiting with no update. When we inquired about our order, they claimed it had been placed in the pick-up bin, but it was nowhere to be found. My husband insisted that nobody had put our order in the bin. The staff suggested that someone might have mistakenly picked it up and took their time to start recreating our order. Eventually, after a 30-minute delay past our scheduled pick-up time, a manager informed us that they would prepare our order again and assured us that a refund would be issued to our credit card afterwards.
Dine in was bad experience for our out of town guests. We RAVED about how good portillos food and service was only to sit and wait 30 minutes for their number to be called only to ask and find that the order had been closed out. Order number was never called. Both our guests and ourselves listened for the number to be called with no luck. (They probably gave it to someone else by mistake). Objectively, the Chicago style hot dog is the best hot dog in the United States, and therefore the world. *Because America* The people that don't like Portillo's don't belong here in Chicago, or the surrounding suburbs — including Naperville. Go put ketchup on your hot dog in California and wipe it off your face with a silky napkin.
The staff is outside in the cold taking orders, which feels a bit outdated to me. Additionally, they’ve closed off the dining room area, making it so that people can’t see you while you eat. I prefer dining without others watching every bite I take. Overall, the restaurant has a very old-school vibe.

Fluffy convinced me to finally give it a shot, everyone! I lived in this area for a whole year and never got around to eating at Portillo's, but I always regretted not trying it. After hearing so much about it over the years...
Food quality is not the same ever since it has changed ownership. Now when ordering catering the bread is different for catering compared to just ordering a beef at the restaurant. Bread might as well be from Jewel.
