Prairie Grass Cafe

For us, the "Wow" factor of Prarie Grass Cafe seems to have slipped away in the past months or so. The food was good, but not great. Certainly fell short of the expectations I have for the award winning chefs listed on the website. I'd prefer to score the food at stars and overall score at stars but Open Table system functionality does not support that. We had great engagement with the staff (hostess, waiter, servers) from beginning to our dessert orders, but then it seemed as though the selling was done and we were forgotten. One of the best restaurants around. We told our trainer we were headed there for lunch, and she said, "Everybody loves that place That sums it up. A relatively small menu with a lot of variety, the occasional special, always a wonderful soup and pie. Our favorites include the egg salad sandwich and tilapia with Parmesan crust. But the burger is great, the crispy chicken salad equally good. Helga is an especially gracious welcomer and many of the waitstaff are warm and helpful. Americana menu good selection of fish meats and vegetables/salads. Good deal on Monday half price wine and no corkage fee if you bring your own. We had the Brussel sprout salad, lamb dish and skirt steak all were prepared nicely seasoned and cooked well the skirt steak can be challenging they did a good job. George was our server and provided us with thoughtful service taking good care of us. What he didn’t know, he quickly found out and was happy to do so. The dining room NEEDS an update. Splurge on the NY Strip flavor is wonderful! Smashed Avocado appetizer and Crispy Brussels Sprouts salad were a hit around the table. Attentive but not overbearing service; quiet atmosphere in which conversation is easy
