We recently visited Primal for the first time. There were 4 in our party. We didn't have a reservation but were greeted and seated very promptly. The menu is small but has some interesting items. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. Primal had two specials .... one was a soup that three of us ordered. Our server returned to say they only had one bowl left so, as I am on a limited diet the others ordered a different starter. When my 'soup' arrrived I took a bite and was very disappointed. It was only warm, not hot, and was a greasy broth, extremely salty with pasta that was tough. I pushed it away and commented it wasn't very good...the others at the table tied it and agreed. We visited this restaurant this evening and my friend and I were underwhelmed with the food and the service. I had the rigatoni which for the most part was very good but it had arugula as the "greens" in the pasta. I would have passed on the meal if I had known that - but that is just a personal preference. Otherwise it was quite good and the truffle oil provided a nice earthy flavour. My friend had the carbonara and she agreed with the other reviewers...you have to work to make spaghetti carbonara that bland. The fried bread was nice and freshly cooked...the olives were good but would have been great if they had been served at room temp.
I came here on a recommendation from the staff of 9 Mile Brewing the restaurant was modern & clean but needed a little more lighting was pretty dark in there away from the window. I ordered the salumi plate $9 & the tagliatelle, locally pastured pork & beef heart bolognaise $20. The salumi plate was mortadella & was very delicious but was missing the buttery fatty texture I am use to but well worth the $9. The tagliatelle with bolognaise sauce was also very good but had some minor flaws the sauce was a little watery & needed some seasoning but other wise very good. All I all really good with a few tweeks this place could be amazing.
Party of 6 came here for supper on a Saturday night because it had been recommended by several friends. It turned out to be a bit disappointing. The decor is very cool, but the food is blah. Really small portions. I had the risotto, which was weirdly SO SWEET almost dessert sweet. It was really strange. The bolognese was good and the rigatoni was good. Otherwise, everything else we had fell flat (carbonara, salumi plate, fried bread...). My friends who had recommended this place were surprised to hear our review. I won't be going back. Our anniversary dinner at Primal was amazing. The food was so fresh. I love pasta and this was about the best I have ever had. The lemon dessert was amazing. I will return again and again just to have that dessert. Too good. My wife also had a pasta option and loved it as well. He had a pistachio and cherry ice cream for dessert and it was amazing as well.
Nice atmosphere, good service. Not as loud as some of the new places. The appetizers were fine and well presented (although both were raw foods so hard to mess up). The mains however were just OK, and certainly not tasty enough to justify the artistically small portions. Left hungry, which you don't really expect after having pasta.
I went to Primal for the first time about a month ago. The pasta dishes were full of flavour and delicious. I was so surprised by how tasty everything was I know I will be coming back! The atmosphere was lovely. A true hidden gem in Saskatoon.
First time at Primal Pasta ... I'm a big fan of the chefs' other restaurant, The Hollows. As expected, Primal Pasta delivered. A very well composed and tasty pork scaloppini dish. The kitchen has a great eye for composition and flavour. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Our meal was excellent, the Pasta is made in house and all the ingredients are fresh. This was our first experience at this restaurant and we will defenetly be going back. If you are looking for good pasta, you won't be disappointed !!!
