Due to precendented times, I decided to pop in for a quick half in support of the public house. I quickly realised I had made a very big mistake! On entry I was 'ordered ' to wear a mask, I explained politely that I am exempt from wearing one, I was asked for an exempt certificate to which I did not have, but offered to sit at a table immdietley. He said he would not serve me, I suggested a scarf, but he said it had to be a mask and again refused me service. I left feeling embarrased and humiliated. We went to get bite to eat, less then two seconds though the door. Got shouted at face mask, my partner started to explain i was exmpt. Well the guy behind the bar shouted he wanted evidence.I went to show him my disabilities card as, i dont need to ware face mask due to distress it would cause due to childhood abuse and am autistic. He wouldn't have it also tried to explain why i could not ware facemask and was government exempt from wearing facemask. he not have it and just kept say he wanted evidence. We have visited this pub a few times when we are in Walsall for a working weekend. We have only experienced the lunchtime service, but have never been disappointed!! The welcome from staff and clientele alike has always been notable! We have eaten there and would easily decide to do so again. The grand draw though is the interior! It is spectacular! Like a Black Country museum... Wrought ironwork everywhere and murals that can only be marvelled at! We are heading over this evening to experience the nightlife! Should be fun!!
I organised a rally in Walsall and wanted somewhere for a breakfast for striking teachers who had been on picket lines all morning. The Red Lion were very accomodating. The food was plentiful and delicious (those pain au chocolates! , all dietry requirements catered for and was set out as a buttet so hungery piceters could help themselves. Only 2 hand pulls in pub. Both had Marston bitter on. The mild only available in keg format. Lovely spiral staircase left hand side going to upper deck. Food served 10.30am – 4pm Mon – Sat. 12pm – 3pm Sunday. Pub opens Mon – Thur 10.30am – 6pm Mon – Thur. Fri 10am – midnight. Sat 10.30am – 1am. Sun 12pm – 4pm. 2 for £10 menu available. All food a decent price. Breakfast served too. Grill menu, pub grub from £5.95. Food is nice. 2 games machine by front door.
this place used to be good nowadays there's a hole in the floor and then serving drinks in the wrong glasses I asked for a Whitley Neill rhubarb and ginger gin and lemonade it got served in a half pint glass for a Malibu and Coke also got served in a half pint Carling not the standard you expecting a gay venue
I was so nervous new town and on own female. How daft was I. Fabulous decorum excellent welcoming and service from gentleman who who served me. Amazing efforts have gone in to Christmas decor. And the the menu and food. 10 out of 10. I really hope I get the chance to return. Thank you.
My local pub wasn't doing food so I went into town looking for nice food. I was not disappointed the food was lovely and the haloween decorations were remarkable. If you want a good Saturday night then you have to come in the red lion with the drag artist on it's really good they are funny
