The Red Lion looks a bit rough and ready from the outside, but it would be difficult to find a better place for Sunday lunch off-season in Newlyn. Downstairs, tables are crowded into nooks and crannies, but there is a small beer garden up some steps at the back. This was perfect on a sunny day. They only serve roasts on Sunday. These come in two sizes. The “small” one was more than enough. It came with Yorkshire pudding, carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, a ball of stuffing and a jug of gravy. Even the dog approved, as there was enough to give him a sliver of beef too. Cheerful, friendly staff as well.
Visited with my Mum and my Son. Lovely food, I had the 3 bean chilli nachos, by far the best nachos I’ve ever had, home made tortilla chips, fresh tasting guacamole, all very tasty, my mum had the pulled pork nachos and my son the chicken goujons which he really enjoyed. The staff were lovely, my mum had a fall when she was in there and they were so kind to her as were the other customers! Highly recommended.
Excellent service, especially as we were a group of 8 who booked at the last minute. The food was amazing. The highlight being the crab soup and the crab cakes. The crab cakes were bursting with crab. The food that comes out of that very small kitchen is incredible. The cook worked so hard, The wine was also lovely, which isn’t always the case in small local pubs. We would definitely visit again.
saw this pub on the way to mousehole and decided to dive on the way back. beautiful that we have made it! great small pub, welcoming and friendly staff, good selection of drinks, beautiful view and the crab soup was incredibly good. the baguettes were filled with hand cut quality local ham and the prices were really reasonable. well done red lon. fantastic place. we will be back. We went in on the off chance and we were warmly greeted. The food arrived very quickly and the meal was fresh and delicious. The fish in particular was very fresh and had a lovely taste. The service was perfect and we were looked after very well checking that everything was to our satisfaction. We'll worth a visit if in the town on a visit!!
Great Sunday lunch.Delicious food, efficient and friendly service. So lovely to have such a simple choice Choice of roast meat and small or large portion. The small size was generous and perfectly adequate but my husband managed the larger portion. Dog friendly and great non touristy atmosphere. Will definitely go again.
we stayed in newlyn for a few days, so on a rainy day most of them were called into the red lion for a few drinks. very friendly staff and local many fishermen had a chat with us. the bar itself is very traditional, but well maintained. If you're ever down there, you should jump in!
Food was fantastic . Really fresh pub food . The only thing I have a moan about is your not quite Shaw what to do order at the bar or your table but when you are served at either staff very pleasant. Worth a visit for fresh pub food a bonus dog friendly. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We had the famous crab soup for starters, was delicious, lots of crab meat. Fish and chips for main, fish was lovely white and fresh, batter was also fresh and light. Thank you ,lovely meal.
