This is the kind of place you hope to happen upon in your travels. We were staying at the Spalding Lakes Campground and noticed in their reviews that many of the guests who has stayed for any extended period of time raved about Rise n' Shine. We were sold. When we drove up and saw the parking lot nearly filled to capacity we knew that was a very good sign. Things just kept going up, up, up from there. Friendly Michigan folks holding the door open for us as we walked up. Offering up suggestions of what was good to eat when we inquired. The food was good, but the service was disappointing. My wife and I are rarely asked if we need anything or if our food is satisfactory. Occasionally, they’ll check if we need a drink refill, but most of the time we have to ask for it ourselves. I’ve heard they regularly inquire about customers’ dining experience, but that’s never happened for us. It seems like you have to be on a first-name basis to receive decent service here. While my wife and I are usually generous tippers, unfortunately, the service we received on September 7th, 2020, didn’t warrant a good tip this time.
I visited for the first time today with my 14-year-old son and had a fantastic experience. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. The portion sizes were quite generous, especially the pancakes—we ended up bringing a lot home with us!
The food is excellent, and the service is quick and friendly. The decor is pleasing as well. My only concern is the $2.99 fee for switching your breakfast meat from pork to beef, which seems a bit pricey.
