I'm Italian, like--born from Italy and eat pizza for a living type of Italian. So when I started exploring pizzerias in Canada I was sorely disappointed. That was until a far Italian friend and Ottawa Local recommended Roberto's. I took my husband and 6 year old and we sat on their small outdoor patio overlooking Preston street. We had great service and everyone who was eating at the restaurant all had a familial way about them---very likely that they were friends or family with the owner and felt comfortable. Shared two pizzas between three people, both had burnt crust under and over, as did the pizza at the table beside us. We ordered a glass of Proseco and it came so flat, no bubbly at all, that it was just like white wine, and the pint of Kitchesippi beer had about a 2-inch head on top. Ingredients are varied, thin crust is good. We had two pieces left at the end and asked to take it home, and the server just dropped off a box--almost like self-serve. Not sure about that overall experience, but it seems to be a very popular place at the moment.
In the middle of little Italy, Roberto's tiny place (about 10 tables) serves a simple and good Pizza. We love to come here with our kids. The pizza's are a good size for a person, the menu isn't big but every Pizza lover could find one he would like. The Pizza's are with thin crust and fresh produce.The only downfall is the fact that you can't reserve seats in advance, but it sure worth the wait.The staff is great and the service is fast!
The pizzas are fantastic, the crusts are crispy and thin just like in the old country and just sufficiently charred to translate the wood oven. Fantastic friendly, personable and informal service. pizzas based on tomato are very good. this reminds Italian pizza cooked with wood fire. The service is very good. waitresses are very smiling and helpful. But pizza is a little expensive and not very large.
Small place turning out just perfect pizzas. Great beer and wine at very reasonable prices. I don't think they take reservations but just a perfect neighbourhood place to drop in for a great pizza.
If you are looking for wood-oven pizza like you get in Italy, Roberto's will not disappoint. One of the few restaurants in Ottawa that have great crust with fresh ingredients.
