Rocking Horse Pub Ltd

Three of us had dinner at the Rocking Horse this evening and came away disappointed. We all had the roast beef special, which was OK except we were told only rare was available, which made us wonder what happened to their end cuts. We checked their menu online just before heading out to their restaurant. The roast beef dinner was shown at $15.95; while the real price was $17.95. My wife ordered the house Malbec which was shown on their website at $6.00; while the real price turned out to be $7. When we presented our Craig Bay Rewards card for the 10% discount as we've done before for the same meal, we were told that it did not apply to specials., which does not jive with our information or o...

So we visited this pub three times! Twice for dinner and once for lunch and loved it! Inside looks like a real English pub and out back they have a lovely patio to sit on. I'm not sure why there are bad reviews as we found the price very reasonable and the portions huge compared to a few other places we went to. ( see my other reviews for this area). Anyway Hannah served us at lunch and was so nice and attentive. So was the lady who served us in the evening, sorry can't remember her name. We were a group of 6 for a weekday lunch. We had a reservation. First of all, the pub is in an out-of-the way location. So, once you get there, you expect to be served a drink to enjoy while you peruse the menu. That was not to be. There was only one server. She took the orders for drinks and food, and served them. So, needless to say, there were very long delays, to the point that it was uncomfortable. They were out of some of the menu items, and when the food arrived, it was fine, but nothing special. It is certainly not worth the effort to take the drive to the Rocking Horse Pub.

Have been to this pub on many occasions over the years. The food has been good for the most part, especially the fish and chips. On this latest occasion the chips were greasy and soggy and the fish texture was odd, almost watery. The fish pies had thin soggy crusts, flavourless sauce, tough stringy veg(leek) and a scarcity of fish. Beer cold. Calamari cold. At 5.00 pm they said they had no more soup. Soon found out why. It was under the crust in the pies. Wife ordered the fish pie that had virtually no fish in it, It was just potato soup under pastry crust. I had steak and kidney pie that was just beef broth with a few pieces of chewy rump steak and no detectable kidney. Daughter's fish and chips were fairly good except the chips were overfried. This place is steadily going downhill.

I have visited this pub many times for a quiet casual dinner. The food is superior to most pubs and there are daily specials plus roast beef specials on weekends. There is outside seating available and there is something special about this rural setting with llamas and horses nearby. Their burgers and fish and chips are superior. Great place for a casual meal with friends.

Very quaint located in a rural area. Food iand portions are good. Nice patio. Reasonable price, good spot if you are a group. You will not be dissapointed nor will it be over the top. But it is nice to get away from the hustle and bustle.What is exceptional is the Friday night prime rib special, over the top so make a reservation or you may not get in.

Stopped at this out of the way pub for a pint on a rainy afternoon. Good beer, good service and nice surroundings. Food looked good. Will go back.

Waited over an hour, terrible service. Restaurant needs to be updated and if you like sticky tables this is your spot
