It is very obvious that this pub is a local Go To place in Nanoose Bay. When we pulled up for lunch on a Sunday afternoon the parking lot was full. It was appropriate though kinda sad to see a sign (pictured below) at the entrance that basically asked for people's patience and understanding with wait times; they are doing the best they can under the present conditions. And wait we did for our beverages and later food, though our waitress was excellent. We have all heard about the difficulty facing these places with finding people to cook etc and I suppose that might be one reason our meals weren't very good. I visited this restaurant in April 2021 for drinks and had a terrible experience. They didn't know how to make a margarita and instead served me a strange lime drink with vodka and ice cubes without asking for my preferences. I returned in April 2022 for drinks and an appetizer, but we were initially seated at one table and then moved to another due to a reservation mix-up. Lovely Old Farm House converted into a pub. Large and roomy (great with Covid). Sign at door asking for patience due to Covid and staffing issues. Service initially a little slow but it was quite busy. Staff very friendly. Drinks and food came in short order and very delicious. Gluten free bread ordered and waitress automatically left the croutons out of the caesar salad (as I didn't mention that). Sits on the picturesque Nanoose Valley with obvious horse barns and ranch surroundings. Would highly recommend.
so very unfriendly when we arrived as the first of a group. an annoying, unfriendly employee asked if I had spoken before on the phone. I told her the organizer was her, we were early. we were accompanied to a table and deliberately ignored until the event host arrived. it always seems that personal problems occur here, even before covid. slowly, in order to maintain replenishment and offer water. food slices w on protein. tiny slices of cake, although beautifully presented. Visited with some trepidation as we had been to another popular restaurant for a roast beef dinner which sadly didn't make the grade. The Rocking Horse didn't disappoint. Although a little on the cool side, it was delicious- in fact, we both said we could eat it all over again. The pub was very busy and the staff a little overstretched but very pleasant and our waitress apologized for the wait. Price was very reasonable. Can't wait to go back for the roast lamb dinner!
Came for Sunday roast, were very disappointed when they advised it was not until after 5pm. Could not find anything online that advised this. The water has a terrible taste- gag worthy. Was told it was “well water”. How can a restaurant serve this? I doubt it would pass a water quality test. The fish and chips portions were so small we left hungry. Service was strange as it was not busy but it was slow and they did not check on us.
We visited this restaurant twice in the past 10 days. The food was very good, however, the service was terrible. The first time it took 2 hours to receive our meal, and we assumed it was just a bad night. The second time, we waited two hours from the time we arrived until we got our meal. We will not be returning for a third visit. We dined at the restaurant on April 9th and April 17th, with reservations at 6:30 both times.
I had a fantastic dining experience at this family restaurant located on a farm in Nanoose Bay. Our server, Louisa, who is also a co-owner, was outstanding. Awesome atmosphere, awesome food!! Was visiting the island and went here for lunch. Had the best beef dip ever. Our waitress provided great service.
