I never in a million years expected to find myself here. It's totally not my scene, not that I have one, but yeah, Rooster's was my first rodeo (har-har) Cover is a fair price, I think it was $8 on a Friday night and they have daily drink specials which are decent. I didn't care for the music at all, even if it was outside of my normal kind of playlist, I could tell that they didn't quite know what the crowd wanted to dance to. The floor was empty for the majority of the night until 12am or so when everyone was drunk and willing to dance to pretty much anything. The staff are 50/50. I haven't really visited many country bars before, and I can't recall any prior to this one. I went there with some friends for a girls' night out, and although we were at the end of the line when we arrived, it moved quite quickly. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the place was. The decor, with its western-themed wallpaper and randomly placed wagon wheels, felt almost overly polished. They had drink specials, and I tried the 'special' double Long Island iced tea. This bar, dance, cabaret, W.E they call them self's is still after a few years now the same old, with business trying to stay afloat. Some of the waiters/bartenders there need to get there act together, real jerks. The food there is not fresh, believe me, I know. If you knew how the place runs in the background, you would not eat or go there. The slushie there are left in the machine and re-used every night. The place seems to need a lot of repairs here and there. If the place got a little freshened up and fixed, with better management there, I could see the place doing well. A disgrace to country bars. My girlfriend and I went here to find some country dancing. As I arrived in wearing a long sleeve t shirt and jeans I was awkwardly patted down as the door man awkwardly reached into my empty pockets... My girlfriend was wearing a heavy coat and they didn 't even bother to check her... Among the various country bars in the lower mainland, this one stands out as the best. With nightly drink specials, a spacious layout that includes a large dance floor and plenty of booths, the venue itself is quite enjoyable. However, the very affordable drinks attract some rowdy patrons, which can sometimes lead to fights and drama. While it gets really busy, I’ve never had to wait in line, although I’ve heard that it can get quite long at times. At first, when I drove up and saw a woman peeing in the parking lot, I assumed this place was sort of low-class, but boy was I wrong. Inside, the place has an amazingly accurate Western atmosphere. For example, it smells exactly like a real rodeo. They have a mechanical bull, but it looks like the real thing. There are even flies buzzing around it, but that could just be because of the sweaty, pantie-less and dignity-free women who ride it. Never have I ever had a bartender roll their entire head at me for not tipping on not only my first drink of the night, but a $7 drink! There had to be over 200 people in the bar by 8pm when I was there, I'm also a bartender so I understand the frustration of not being tipped but on a $7 drink? This bartender clearly has no respect or customer service skills. Like actually??? Who gets mad at a student for not tipping? I'm sorry that I didn't tip but I guarantee that just because I didn't tip you, you were still tipped by at least 80% of the people there last night and walked away with more than enough cash. I stop going because I have seen too many girls 17-20 get plastered to the point where people pass out in the bathrooms and it ruins the fun of the place, it used to be a fun place to go to but now it's turned into a sleezy country bar where young girls go to get waisted and act like it's a city night club rather than an actual country bar. If they watched the door better and put a liquor limit on people I would go back but I probably won't till they change this issue
Roosters is very discriminative place. I went there tonight with my two friends and the bouncers looked at my id and questioned it for twenty minutes when it was obviously me. The bartenders didn't serve me, but they served my two white blonde friends just fine. Whole time I felt uncomfortable. Would not recommend if your of colour!
