A Sicilian friend told me this is not real Italian. We, however, decided to decide for ourselves after having read a positive review in The Detroit Free Press. Having lived in Italy, I have a high bar for what constitutes 'real Italian '. This restaurant fell short. We had to ask to be served water after having been seated for ten minutes or so. A short time later, the waiter brought my husband 's beer first and my sparkling water close to 7 minutes after that. We had to ask for bread which our waiter told us was in the oven. I recently hosted my husband's 40th birthday party at this restaurant, and it was an incredible experience. We rented a private room, and both the food and service were outstanding. Miguel did an excellent job organizing our event, ensuring that we had everything we needed and fulfilling all aspects of our agreement. The private room itself was beautiful, complete with its own bar and bartender. Miguel even arranged for a TV in the room so the guys could enjoy watching the NCAA games. Our server, Cole, was simply phenomenal. He was professional and attentive, constantly refilling and serving numerous bread baskets. Thank you, Cole! We hadn't been to Sapori (flavor in Italian) so, being in the neighborhood, decided to give it another try. We came early, around 5:00pm, but weren't the first arrivals. A surprising number of folks dined early there. Menu selection was good. Our selections were prepared promptly and arrived at the table hot. Compared to other similar Italian offerings, they were above average, but not top of the line. There are one or two better Italian restaurants in the commuting area. Wine choices were very good. We did not try any spirits. Overall, when we are in the neighborhood again, we'll be back.
EXCELLENT service. Our waiter Tony was absolutely top notch. Our food was prepared and served promptly, and the kitchen staff even added a “Happy Anniversary” detail to our dessert plate. My friends and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. We never felt rushed or like we were taking up too much space at our table. Our server, Len, was friendly and attentive to our needs. We will definitely be back!
