Positives. Waitress Janiksa(sp) was superb. Professional, efficient but friendly. A gem. Cocktails. Well crafted. Our dinners were very good. Enjoyed the crispness of the cabbage under the sea bass but the flavor masked the delicate well prepared sea bass. Negative. Table placement. Sat at a two top on the wall. Space between our table and the neighbors was too tights. I was bumped multiple times through the course of the evening. Waitstaff knew how navigate the space but patrons not so much. Annoying. Avoid two tops on the wall next to another table.
Sax never disappoints. Everyone is on their game but Patrick exemplifies what he does. He is honest about his recommendations and you can feel his excitement over the meals he too enjoys. When you go the only bad thing is when you hear the night's specials and you again may have to make a choice. We have had just about everything on the menu and it is all great!!! We found this gem of a restaurant a few years back and continue to look forward to our meals here. The bar is a great place for snacks and drinks pre or post meal as well.
My wife and I sat in the new glass enclosed area which was very nice. We shared an order of Calamari Fritti for our appetizer, and we both had Gamberi Fontana (fettuccini, shrimp, spinach in a white wine sauce for our main dish. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The rolls that were served were stale which was a minor negative. It would have been nice and enhanced the overall ambiance if there was music (Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Steve Tyrel, etc. playing. Overall, I would highly recommend Polpo Restaurant.
The food and service were excellent. I highly recommend if you enjoy high quality food and are not on a budget. Costs were reasonable for the beach; however, it certainly was not a budget friendly meal. My biggest takeaway was you get what you pay for in restaurants. Charcuterie, salads, filet, sous vide chicken, chanterelle pasta special,and kids pasta were all superb. Desserts were decent portions and made in-house. I would absolutely dine here again. We traveled almost an hour just to have the calamari and meatloaf at SAXS. The calamari was the best we have ever had and highly recommend it. The meatloaf wrapped in bacon was excellent! To top off our dinner we had their homemade ice cream. What a fantastic dinner! We can't wait to return !!!!! We give this restaurant a 5 star rating!
Good service and good ambiance. For the high price, I expected the food to be fabulous. It was good. Dinner for 2 (no appetizers, no dessert, 1 drink) was $150. Although pricey, I still recommend it if you want a quiet dinner in Stone Harbor. Most restaurants in Stone Harbor tend to be loud and busy. Sax is subdued.
So many flies on the food on you and everyone around us. The calamari was mushy. The oysters were ok we finished dinner in an hour. The veggie burger wasn't as good as the last time. We drove 40 minutes there, I thought last time's we liked it. They have the location but the chef needs to step it up.
The food was incredible. My husband got the sea bass and said it was the best meal he ever had. My daughter had the delicious crabcakes and the colossal shrimp to start and they were in fact colossal. Our waiter Nemicio was fantastic and attentive. The service at SAX is excellent and I've never had a bad meal there. In fact most ratings on OpenTable are exaggerated, but I think SAX is fantastic: I make it a point to go there every time I'm in Avalon/Stone Harbor area.
