I've been wanting to try Shokudou for a couple of years now, but I was hesitant to enjoy indoor dining during the height (and even the tail end) of COVID. However, I've since become more comfortable with dining out, and it was finally time to pay a visit!
To my surprise, we were able to secure a table easily during peak dinner hours. I’m not sure if this was due to a decrease in crowds over time or if it’s just a bit tricky to get there, but the lack of a wait was definitely a big plus. One lesson I’ve learned the hard way is to always make reservations when you can!

Staff was very friendly and attentive. We appreciated that they let us sample a few sakes before ordering and they even offered to move us to a bigger table once it cleared up. Small details like this made our experience much more enjoyable.Food was also amazing. We had an assortment of the skewers and the hamachi collar appetizer. The beef enoki, beef negi, and chicken thigh skewers were the highlights of our meal. Each skewer was seasoned well and had a nice charcoal taste from the grill. We decided to try this restaurant because the Thai place had a long wait. Upon entering, you have to push open a barn door to reach the dining area. The restaurant is quite spacious and clean. It has a unique family-style dining concept with small plates, like barbecue chicken and pork belly, which may not be enough for those with a hearty appetite. Some of the dishes, such as the fried chicken karage, grilled butterfish, and agadashi tofu, were just okay compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area—nothing particularly remarkable. However, the warriors sushi roll was enjoyable.
We started with the beef enoki skewers, which were my favorite dish of the night, along with a chicken skewer that was good as well. Next, we ordered the nigiri omakase, which was decent but not particularly memorable. The fish was fresh, yet nothing stood out about it. Still feeling hungry, we rounded off our meal with the grilled miso butterfish, which was like a heartier version of miso cod. However, I think I prefer the texture of miso cod more.
Overall, the experience was good, and I especially enjoyed the grilled skewers, which I would highly recommend trying.

Shokudou is known for their skewers.The enoki and asparagus were good and decent sized servings.The karaage, was light and crunchy.The katsu was dry.I suggest order the more expensive rolls like the Flamed Toro instead of the less expensive NegiToro Rolls.Overall, it was a great meal but can get pricey.Be sure to check your receipts because they charged my table for miso soup but never brought it out.They can split cards (up to 3). They auto-grat for larger groups. When they did this, my tip amount was higher than my other friend even though my bill was smaller.
Delightful jazz instrumental playing. Miso and garlic edamame as appetizers. Very fresh rolls and chicken yaki. Really, really nice and relaxing atmosphere. Friendly unobtrusive waiters. Just an overall lovely experience.
Great place. Sit at bar chef is very nice and can talk at times. Sushi is good and sometimes the chef will recommend things.
This was a great experience full of Authentic Dishes and family style option as well.
