Soby's was highly recommended. It didn't disappoint. The service was attentive and well-intended. The food was very good and the prices were more than fair and reasonable. The wine list is just crazy. One of the biggest wine lists I have ever seen. And some of the prices are crazy expensive too. While you really have to look to find some values, there are indeed values. Like the Hermann J. Wiemar dry riesling from New York at $80 per bottle. There are multiple vintages priced at $600+. I don't know who is buying those wines. If I'm buying a $600+ wine, it's going to be at a restaurant with white tablecloths and a dress code. That's probably my only complaint. No tablecloths and no dress code...
We didn’t have a reservation and the restaurant was packed. We were lucky and found a table within a few minutes in the non-reservation area by the bar. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were outstanding. Even though the restaurant was busy, our server took good care of us and the food arrived as soon as expected for a busy night. All in all, a great place to go for a night out. Tip of the day. Make reservations on weekends or holidays and this is a go to place downtown Greenville and it’s always busy.
Had the Fried Green Tomatoes and She Crab Soup, both very good. For entree had Braised Beef Short Rib, delicious. For dessert, had the White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie I normally prefer chocolate desserts but this one was highly recommended. It was good, and the two of us finished it all, but not sure I'd get again (but if you love banana pie and short bread, and looking to try a different dessert, I'd say it's worth a shot). Not a wine drinker, but they have a cellar and their selection is huge.
Our food was very good, the atmosphere enjoyable and staff nice. We had She Crab Soup, Charred Brussels Sprout salad, the pork belly special app of the day, with short ribs and sword fish. My husband was particularly happy with the sword fish, since it is very difficult to hey fish cooked perfectly most places. There was a minor mix up with our drink order. Took my girlfriend to this location for her birthday. Menu was very weak and the main course was a fish. I asked them what the hell was I served. A kids meal from McDonalds was more. The best part of the evening was the two glasses of wine that eased the pain. It only took 142 dollars to figure out that I'd never dine there again, and that my girlfriend is a big cry baby.
Enjoyed an early dinner on a FRI evening with two friends of ours (their first visit). Starters included the she crab soup, beet salad, and burrata salad. Entrees: short ribs, scallops, shrimp and grits. Shared a slice of the white chocolate banana cream pie. All very good, along with the service from Jennifer.
Been to Soby's a lot, first bad meal was last night, so sad. My undercooked salmon was like sushi (bleeeech), tasteless black (ugh) rice and Brussels sprouts were a huge disappointment. Generally the meals here are excellent and I bring my out of town guests here always. Will have to rethink.
This place is wonderful. The food is delicious! The shrimp and grits are absolutely delicious. The steak is absolutely delicious. Everything that they have to offer is so fresh and prepared perfect. Amazing service, great food, and amazing cocktails. Chloe was our waitress and she was OUTSTANDING. Very attentive and personable definitely coming back and bringing more people!!
