The Barley Mow in Almonte is hands down the best place to eat in town. It has an authentic, old world, British pub atmosphere and the vibe there is great! On my first visit I was greeted by the friendliest bartender, Amanda and I was able to get an amazing table overlooking the Mississippi River. I had the poutine and my friend had a burger and chips and they were both exceptional with ample portions. I’ve been back many times since and have recommended this place to family and friends. If you’re looking for a restaurant that encapsulates the feel of what Almonte is historically known for then this is definitely the right choice.Kid-friendliness: Kids menu is great. I waited for a while with my baby in her car seat at the front of the restaurant, but nobody helped me. I had to lift the car seat over my head to make my way to the bar to ask someone at a table. I was informed that there was a 45-minute wait due to being short-staffed. I understand the situation, but during my wait, about 8 people left. The waitress seemed overwhelmed and tried to be polite, but was clearly stressed when she mentioned that she thought the hostess had helped me. I had been standing there for quite a while, watching people leave. If you cannot assist people at the front, please consider putting up a sign with the wait time.
Throwing down some stars for Amanda the bartender. Since our first visit during Covid when my family and I had just moved here and didn’t know a single person in town, Amanda has always made us feel welcome and has gone above and beyond to show kindness to us. Telling our girls stories about her journey in life, making our son feel special, and always providing excellent service while doing so. Thanks yo.
Food is mediocre at best and not very inclusive. Service is good. I just don't understand why people like to eat here. Lovely location. The patio with views of the river is a great spot to enjoy a meal. The food was delicious, with a cozy pub/roadhouse vibe, and the service was top-notch. We will certainly be returning to dine here again.
We went to dinner as a group last night and Maddie provided excellent service. She was attentive, friendly, and quick. Thank you, Maddie! We will definitely request you if we come back.
The venue was great. Somewhat hard to find though. Additional signage on the street would be helpful. Service was ok, however ditsy waitresses didn't come to our table for the 1st half
