World square never strikes me as Sydney dining and drinking hot spot. It was probably the last place I would fancy a glass of wine on a warm breezy Sunday afternoon. And that is exactly what I did at the Bavarian in World Square last Sunday, very much to my surprise. As we walked out of a nearby restaurant, I accidently looked up and saw the Bavarian at the second floor where used to be a childcare centre I believe. On the spur of the moment we decided to stop by for a quick drink before heading elsewhere. The restaurant is very spacious and in contrast looked empty with only a handful of customers. the personal has clearly given no attention. first we were given the wrong drink, but we didn't know until we came back and asked about the same and got something completely different. When I asked this, the employee was not helpful and came from sarcastic and did not offer any excuse for us, initially given the wrong drink. during the ordering of the girl at the theke went away to the center set to speak with the kitchen. they were out of many things that are absurd for a Saturday night, as a restaurant in one of the most popular places in sydney, they would expect a level of preparation. when I went to collect my food, it was the wrong thing, the same girl, which also clearly did not notic...
After not eating meat for 5 days while trying a new diet, I decided to indulge in the Munich Brewers Platter for 2 at this restaurant. The lively pop music playlist set a fun atmosphere on a quiet Saturday lunch hour as I eagerly awaited my hearty German meal. The table setting received a decent score on the napkin test. When the platter arrived, it was so large that our table barely fit everything. The platter included 4 types of sausages, pork belly with crispy crackling, pork knuckle, chicken schnitzel, sauerkraut, pickled red cabbage, mashed potato, apple compote, mustard, and beer jus. Decided to try something new for dinner and opted to head here on a Monday night because it was easy. The menu looks interesting, many different choices. We ordered burgers just because we felt like it at the time. Though looking at the menu, there are many other things I would also like to try. Friend got double beef, double cheese. He said the patties were a little dry. I got the Kanzler and the thick patty made it so it was cooked perfectly. The sauce in mine also made the burger super juicy and messy, like a good burger should be. There are a good range of beers on tap and you're spoilt for choice. The pork belly I ordered had a crispy outer layer and the meat was incredibly tender. It was served with a generous portion of fermented red cabbage. The mashed potatoes could have used more seasoning and the gravy tasted like beef stock and was a bit thick. However, I loved the apple compote, which tasted just like the filling of an apple pie. I wish there had been more of it. The fries had the perfect crunch and were seasoned just right. Please note that there are surcharges for card payments, public holidays, and Sundays. I didn't mind the surcharges, but I would have preferred if they were more transparent, especially regarding the Sunday surcharge.
Came here on a very stormy afternoon to catch up with a friend from qld, very quiet as it was around 2 pm , we came to the counter and Asked for a table. The friendly waitress told us just pick any of the table and order at the counter . We ordered the sausage plate and rack of ribs , the full rack of ribs here is much smaller than other establishment however nice flavour ! Sausages also nice and good size . We also ordered a couple of flavoured beers , all good ! Would visit again to try other things on their menu . Have previously tried their other branch on york street but I like this Express branch in world square better !
This is definitely a good place for a hearty meat filled meal. I had the cheese kransky with the choice of two sides which was too much food for one. Also the Munich Brewers Platter for two should really be for 3-4 people (or just 2 super hungry people). I liked the platter because it sampled a variety of meats and sausages. Overall, the food was delicious but super filling.

You can't go wrong with sauerkraut and sausages and they do them well at The Bavarian. Enjoyed as a takeaway meal, this was no sad desk lunch.
