My wife and I decided to pop by here for breakfast a couple of weeks ago, and boy, are we glad we did. We luckily managed to get a last minute booking as it was quite busy. The café itself exudes an earthy charm, filled with home grown plants, creating a welcoming ambiance. The staff were welcoming on arrival and accommodating throughout our visit. The menu has a great selection from your usual go to breakfasts/lunches, to some more unique options. Thankfully the menu wasn’t too vast that and it was manageable to choose. Customer service was quite awful. One girl was just not nice, the other one was lovely but they never check on you, they forgot stuff every time like cutlery or salt and pepper and it took ages for them to stop chatting or only take care of new or paying customers, they took ages to remove my plate and then the not so nice girl told me they needed the table by 1pm which was 40 mins away. Didn't expect to stay that long but since she didn't bring cutlery nor came to check if the food was fine for a while, I couldn't start eating and then I wanted the bill for a while but just had to wait cause they wouldn't even check my table and it's a tiny place, she then just looked annoyed I was still th...
During my visit to Edinburgh City for the fringe festival, I found myself near Meadows Park and decided to try out The Birchwood bistro wine bar cafe for breakfast. The homemade dishes on the menu were delicious, the coffee was exceptional, the staff were friendly, and the outdoor seating was a nice touch. I returned in the evening on a Friday during my week-long stay for dinner and enjoyed a selection of decent Spanish tapas, meat and cheese boards, and a variety of wines and spirits. The atmosphere was very cozy, and I will definitely visit again and recommend this wonderful spot for a Scottish breakfast to brunch during the weekends. I look forward to coming back soon.
Second time visiting The Birchwood and it’s a lovely spot for some wholesome brunch. Great selection on the menu and the staff kitchen are very accommodating when it comes to substitutions which is so appreciated! Service could be a bit faster and the toilets could do with more regular attention cleaning as they were pretty messy during the visit.

Not great, tables a bit sticky and staff while friendly and polite got the order wrong twice. Plain avo on toast order came topped with poached eggs, chilli sauce and rocket. Food okay but more complicated than needed to be. King Benedict made with sriracha mayo instead of hollandaise. Worth trying but there's better options in Edinburgh.
Family and friends brunch gathering. Accommodating staff (changed original booking from 6 to 9 person! Sat outside, great service from Jay, reasonable prices, super menu and delicious food! Praise all round! Will return for sure
Great breakfast experience just after getting into Edinburgh. Staff was very accommodating a tired group and all of our massive bags. Stop by for the Smashed Avocado Toast and Banana Bread.
Very nice. Excellent food and coffee. A little pricey but not unreasonably so. Highly recommend.
