We had made a booking post Christmas as we used to frequent the Black Boy when we worked for Oxford Brookes in Headington and were always satisfied with the experience, Now we are reitired we nrmaly meet up monthly and usually with little notice and have frquently been disappointed that it is fully booked. However I had a dental appointment so had good notice and managed to get a lunchtime booking. Unfortunately the dental appointment overran, and was more painful than anticipated, so I could only have the excellent soup, and wine(so not all bad! but my friend had a main course which he was very pleased with, and a lush dessert. It’s been quite a while since we last dined at the Black Boy and unfortunately we won’t be back, I’m not sure if it’s changed hands recently but it’s gone seriously downhill Scruffy hungover looking staff, a large menu (which hinted correctly at the prodigious use of freezer and microwave) and poorly presented cool and bland food. Such a shame as it used to be one of the best places in Oxford for Sunday lunch whereas now it very much trails the field and offers food below the standard on offer by the value for money chains.
After hearing great things about this Pub I was excited to finally see what it was like for myself. I was disappointed by my visit. It was fine. The food was nice but I had been told this was one of the better places to eat in Oxford. Based off my experience it isn't. The waiters seemed to be going through the motions. I would not go back to this pub or recommend it to a friend.
We choose to come here as the menu looks good online. It was busy for Thursday night luckily we reserved a table. Food tasted good and was served very quickly. Food prices isn’t too either. Service could be a bit better, but overall we were happy.

Absolutely amazing food and service. If the weather's nice you can sit outside in the garden which is gorgeous and when I last went they had a harp player!
Bar has been done up to look like a cheap glitzy cocktail bar.

Food was really lovely. However a couple of disappointing issues around the booking arrangements marred what was otherwise a really enjoyable lunch.
Great place to catch up with friends. Enough space not to be listening to next doors conversation. Friendly staff, quiet and efficient service.
