we have been coming to this hotel since the late 70s and always enjoy our time here. we were over at night on Friday night 2nd February. our room was classified as prestige, but the only disappointment was that it was small and on the side of the hotel overlooking the parking lot. (a small point it has said on the website was that in the room unfortunately they were not, and this was due to the attentiveness of the receptor who looked into this.) the good point was that they can see cat bells black crag maiden moor eel crag and they could see below the borrowdale valley in direction seatoller. on the back of the hotel you can visit the lodore cascade, which is a waterfall. the cleanliness an...
We had a wonderful experience at this welcoming hotel. The food was exceptional, and there were plenty of lounge areas and different seating options to relax with a glass of wine. Upon arrival, we enjoyed delicious tea and scones, courtesy of a Groupon deal. It made for a lovely getaway for our second wedding anniversary. I would highly recommend this peaceful setting.
I just came back from another break. last minute booking with the barking mad offer with tee and scones at the arrival. a wonderful stay. our room was beautiful with view of the lake. as usual the staff, the service and the eating were all excellent. this place never fails to give a relaxed and comfortable break, which is why we always return. Great place to stay, lovely surroundings and full of Lakeland charm. Food spot on with tasty full Cumbrian Breakfast and real ales on tap in the bar. Great bedrooms and pleasant lounges with warming firesides and full of history and character. Good walks nearby round Derwent Water or up Catbells and Keswick not far for shops and interests. Had a lovely Sunday dinner here on Father's Day, and could not fault anything, the staff offer a wonderful service and are very friendly, thank you to Cath I think that is what the lady was called for your kindness with my three Grandsons, We were the noisy ones! myself my Husband will certainly be visiting again.
We received a warm welcome from the staff, and it was such a pleasure to see the cozy fires after a chilly, blustery day. Our lunch was hearty yet featured delicate flavors; I particularly enjoyed the tarragon in the chicken sandwich. I highly recommend this place!
Just returned home after a fantastic 2 days stay. We had tea and scones, which were warm, on arrival. A lovely room which was at the side of the hotel looking down the road. Amazing food and friendly staff. A little gem in the lakes and cannot wait to return.

really nice place very friendly staff delicious eating and great place to foot. room very comfortable there is a dry room and a bath in the bathroom much needed after much to foot!
