Giving service a 4 only because when we first arrived it took quite some time to get some help. We were told to find our own table (normal for upstairs), but once we sat down in took awhile for someone to acknowledge we were present. Finally a male server came by to drop off menus (albeit one short). It was maybe another 10-15 mins before another lady came to bring us water. This is when at least the service turned around. I believe her name was Joanne. She was extremely friendly and from that point on made us feel welcomed. She checked on us throughout; while seemingly help to lead all the other serving staff in helping the rest of the tables. We were pretty sour from how the service starte...
I was really looking forward to dining at this restaurant. I had heard great things about it. However, I found the experience to be quite disappointing. I brought my mom along, and she ordered bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and a cup of coffee. She didn't enjoy the coffee, and her eggs were undercooked. I opted for the SOS (biscuits and gravy) which had a large portion size but had a strange flavor that reminded me of American cheese. The accompanying potatoes were also overcooked. The staff was friendly but slow due to a new computer system. The restaurant itself was charming. When the bill arrived, it was over $60 for two entrees and one coffee. My boyfriend and I love the Buttered Biscuit. You won't be disappointed. We went there pretty soon after we moved to Washington and have been back several times since them. We usually get the S.O.S and/or the Grandpa chicken fried steak and they both are a must have. The steak actually has meat in it and isn't just all batter like some breakfast diners, the sausage gravy is delightful and the biscuits are also incredibly fluffy. Everything we've had always comes out as requested such as extra crispy hash browns. The cornbread is huge and I generally scrape off the sugar on top (I feel it doesn't need it and has too much sugar to cornbread ratio) and eat it with just the whipped butter.
8/11/24: Imagine you're here for a Sunday brunch and you get the most delicious buttered biscuit you've ever tasted while waiting for your food, then a loud scuffle directs your attention to the front door where two beefy men are lightly pushing each other and an old man is sitting on the floor. No one was harmed and I was mad at myself for not filming the whole scene. Nonetheless the entire meal was delicious and wonderful staff in follow. Family took us to this restaurant as one of their favorite brunch spots. Easily would make this a regular stop if we lived in the area. We made sure to try a wide variety of the menu and were pleasantly surprised by how good things were! And the portion sizes!? Make sure to share! They can get busy and some of the service can slow down but the staff was always helpful. Photos of some of the fave grub we picked up. Being family and friends!
I have been dining at this restaurant for approximately 6 years and the food continues to be excellent. However, it appears that the quality of service has declined. I am hoping that the server was simply having a bad day.
Oh my goodness, the food was AMAZING. HUGE buttered cornbread with our breakfast. We always leave with happy full bellies!! Service is always pleasant and I love that they serve breakfast until late afternoon.
