The Chairman was once recognized as the best food truck in San Francisco, and that accolade was well-earned. We have always loved their food, whether at their location in the Tenderloin or from their food trucks. You could always count on high quality at reasonable prices, delivered consistently.
However, since the price hike, they've been facing significant quality control issues. We ordered three miso-cured tofu steamed buns, along with a burger and a bowl, from their Oakdale location. When I picked up the order, I checked to ensure we had everything, and it all seemed in order.

Caught them at the San Mateo farmers market, really friendly folks too. I ordered a couple of steamed miso tofu buns. Took only about a couple of minutes even though there was a decent amount of foot traffic. The buns were extremely soft and the tofu was well marinated and had a great texture. Delicious food that didn't leave you feeling stuffed and quite healthy too with a topping of greens, you can skip the Mayo if you wanted to go vegan but there wasn't too much of it anyway. Love the food and the people!
My first experience with The Chairman was through their food truck, and I’ve been hooked ever since. The tofu taco on a soft, warm bun is absolutely incredible—so good that even meat lovers will enjoy it. The restaurant only offers street parking. During my visit, there was a short wait because the cashier accidentally forgot to send my order to the kitchen, but they quickly made up for it by giving me an extra taco.

Love creative they are with their bao buns. Offering baked baos and steamed baos, with vegan and vegetarian friendly options too! Great flavors and the pork belly is soo tender! Prices are fair. Service is great!

Food was pretty tasty. Lots of flavor in the sauces, seasoned well. Only thing is it's a long wait to order and get the food, even for private catered events. Tried a steamed bao with pork belly. Pickled daikon was a nice vinegary addition. Baked bao with coca cola braised pork was about double the size of the steamed, like burger size. Moist and the slaw was nice.
This commissary kitchen of a food truck cooks up much-welcome flavors in a neighborhood of limited dining options.The pork belly bao, straightforwardly sweet and tender, with nice acidic crunch from daikon pickles. Karaage chicken fingers, not very different from any diner-made chicken tender with fries.The food, while tasty, could step it up a bit on the spice.
You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I just wish it wasn’t located in California. It’s a bit disappointing that a food truck has turned into such an expensive treat. Not their fault, though—the food is definitely high quality.
I used to love their food truck, but now I’m even more impressed with their permanent location. The salad bowls, noodle dishes, and flavorful rice bowls are a must-try and only available at the restaurant.

A great place to eat for quick and delish modern Asian street food! I ABSOLUTELY love their spicy chicken buns with pickled vegetables!! Good prices, fresh ingredients, and friendly staff!!
