Went past this place many a time en route from tube station to Premier inn. I visited on pie and a pint night, which came in at £15.50 excellent value but without sounding rude about the establishment I wasn't expecting much. I was allowed a glass of wine in place of the pint of lager/beer. The food took 25mins to arrive indicating it was freshly cooked and not just microwaved. The Beef and Guiness pie was excellent, a small slice but deeply filled. The meat was tender and had a rich taste, the pastry was really nice. accompanied by mash, greens and gravy, I cleared the plate. Desserts sounded tempting but I declined one. Pubs in Ireland are rated by their welcome and this English pub is right up there among them. Wonderful staff we met two an Irish woman and a English woman whose attention to detail and helpfulness to two passing travellers was second to none and quite frankly better than you would get in Ireland. Warm and friendly atmosphere that is designed tastefully inside and outside with the customers relaxation to the foremost in their design. Get there ask for a Pims and watch the effort made to make your drink a special one!! Owner, a friendly gentleman who not only is a good businessman but keenly understands the concept of Fáilte Welcome! which he as entrusted to his staff!
This pub has it right. It’s laid back and relaxing on a warm Sunday sitting on the garden. You don’t wait Joe’s for food as in some pubs The menu is sensibly not too long 6 options plus roasts on a Sunday. The food is therefore well prepared and the vegetables on roasts cooked al dente. Great Caesar salad too with a small chicken joint on top cooked crisp rather than the usual chopped up breast. Excellent range of beers , family and dog friendly. Good value. Highly recommended.
Booked for a meal here on a Thursday evening. Very lively pub with a well organised bar and a good selection of beers and drinks. Staff were friendly and efficient. Weren't so impressed with the food. It was okay. Starters were nicer than mains. Nothing particularly wrong with it just nothing special. Went because half the party are veggies and although they had choice and it wasn't just highly processed veggie burgers it was a little tasteless. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We just had our wedding reception at the Charles holden pub and what a fabulous day it was. We reserved the outside bar and gazebo which was plenty of space for our guests. We had lovely tapas and then mains of fish and chips, beef burger and the mushroom burger which were all delicious and decent size portions. A special shout out to Hannah, Ben and Patrick for helping to organise everything and making sure the day ran smoothly.
Friendly staff that cannot do enough to make a pleasant evening, did visit just before Xmas with work people and they took us in last minute for a table for 8, the swiftly pulled some tables and chairs together and laid it lovely with crackers. Pub has a lovely vibe and look forward to more evenings theee especially in the summer in the lovely outdoor area out the back. Massive thankyou again
We went to this pub for something to eat and haven’t been there for a while. We were very surprised at the quality of the food and the service was great. This place has been our my doorstep for years and we haven’t really taken advantage of it until now. Definately better than done well known restaurants and can’t fault it.
Went for drinks on a Friday, seemed a nice place, had a real fire going, rugby was on, not rowdy. Prices where good, staff friendly. Nice pub Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Nice Mother's Day celebrated on family. All the mums at the venue got a small present from the restaurant. Very sweet
