The building is extremely attractive from outside, and inside it just makes you smile, with the blazing fire at one end and olde-worlde atmosphere. The pub was busy mid-afternoon, and friends were coming in and greeting each other. The music was slightly too loud, but...thoughtfully chosen to counteract the olde-worlde atmosphere and prevent the place from feeling too twee. I didn't identify any of the artists or the tracks, but it seemed to me like Nick Hornby music--casual but self-conscious and very cool, with a masculine flavour. Looked good online and from outside. Inside quite pretty, there it ends. Young new'ish (a week) and very nervous bar person failed to do anything of much use. Had to find other staff to confirm reservation and where to sit. Sat at window and made...the mistake of looking down into a filthy radiator next to my seat. Menu scruffy and pretty basic. Quite a few Ales. Waited for someone to take our order. Nothing. went to bar after some time being ignored by all staff and told we had to start there! Meal was uninspiring. Could not even provide English mustard and didn't seem to understand that the American mild version is totally different. Desert order was wrong but just adequate. Price average...

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday and it was glorious. Lamb shank cooked to perfection, vegan option (butternut squash roast) filling and tasty (and I’m not vegan), vegetables delicious, and the Yorkshire pudding the best I can remember encountering. All of this in a warm...(there’s an open fire) and welcoming (staff were brilliant) environment that felt COVID-safe without a big fuss. I ate far too much it was too good to leave on the plate. The menu has a good range of non-roast options though: the scampi bites and the sausage baguette looked great and soup, salad and, in fact, everything sounded tempting. And all very good value! Throw in a lack of pretension and a proper traditional pub...

choose between pizza or burger. overcooked and overpriced sad trage of a burger! £10.50 for a 6oz burger packed in cheap foil on a burned bungalow. pay them extra if they want overcooked chips to complete the experience!

great customer service in a great pub. kasia was especially very helpful, attentive and friendly. food was fabulous
