Food was standard pub grub but over priced for what you get and the service was terrible. Meal felt rushed, I assume because the kitchen closes at 8:30pm to the extent that our mains were brought out while we were still eating starters. Once we had finished our mains only half the plates were cleared away despite the service staff coming over twice to offer us dessert. We declined each time and despite having empty glasses we were not offered more drinks or coffees etc. we had planned to stay longer but given the poor service etc we decided to leave early and asked our taxi to collect us early. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy, and it was reasonably quiet (even though every table was booked or occupied). We had a wonderful experience. The liver and bacon dish was delicious, as were the soup and dessert. I don't understand a previous comment mentioning a "cost of living crisis" menu being available online with prices - just check before you go and go elsewhere if you can't afford it. Based on our experience, I highly recommend this restaurant.
We visited this restaurant with a party of 8 ranging in age from 21 to 85 to celebrate my dad's birthday. The entire evening was fantastic. The regular menu offered a variety of pub classics that were generously portioned and cooked perfectly. The specials were a bit more unique and equally delicious. The service was excellent, the prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was cozy and rustic. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be returning!
Before the pandemic, we frequented the Chequers restaurant and the food was always fantastic. An unplanned visit for lunch proved that despite the challenging circumstances all pubs have faced since Covid, the Chequers is still delivering delicious food. The bar staff were friendly and welcoming, and the calves liver and bacon dish was outstanding, cooked perfectly and incredibly satisfying. I highly recommend it. Great job to all involved. Great food, down-to-earth pub cum no-frills restaurant in a perfect little hamlet. There's a garden and a patio at the front. The menu is not fancy, it's just good food from Fish and chips to a Sunday roast and all sorts in the middle. It's not cheap, but who's worried because you won't be disappointed. Don't go there, I don't want too many people to find it.
I really enjoyed our recent experience at The Chequers Inn. The food was good and the service was excellent. I had a very good meal, which was the South American steak and a very nice pudding which was the honeycomb ice cream. The staff were friendly and helpful. If your very tall you might have to duck down quite a lot, because the ceiling is very low.
We were passing and decided to stop and have a drink as it looked great We ordered two small bottles of non alcohol lager and a half pint of ale Quite amazed when presented with the bill for 11.35 someone is sure working on London prices If you go bring please of money

Went with daughter and son in law. Food was great, service was brilliant and very reasonably priced (in my opinion). Only downside was......there was too much on the plate and I had no room for dessert. Next time, I will have a starter and dessert!!
