The Chequers Inn At Thornham

When we arrived for Saturday dinner, I sensed a problem as the place was heaving and the bar full. We had booked online many days before but were informed we would have to wait for our table to be become available. Free drinks at the...bar were offered. and more people arrived to hear the same news. Tempers were rising. We were seated half and hour later but it was obvious management had not correctly allocated the times between tables. The poor waitress bore the brunt of the complaints. Now the good news the food was delicious and inventive. The staff were worked off their socks but remained cheerful. Just need to sort out the booking times.

We were staying nearby and came here for dinner on a Saturday night. A family party of six, including a baby of months. Our server was a young man, friendly and helpful. The food was lovely, really good for fish lovers. The two who...had the steak were equally impressed. We didn’t have starters or desserts, but the stone bass and hake were exceptional. The room we were in had a real log fire, a perfect way to spend a wet and windy night. We will return when we are in the area again.

full disclosure I slated the Chequers years ago (and got a pretty defensive response). No need this time I love the pub and had a sneaky afternoon pint there before we returned for dinner. Dinner for was great perfectly cooked.. friendly young staff. If I had a criticism it would be that the menu had lots of fish options (which limited my wife's choice) the artichoke was small for a main. But overall a real treat, they are doing lots of things well and will definitely return

An all round quality experience. Very attentive and friendly staff who provided superb service. The food was well presented and was of top quality. Dog friendly with an open fire (but weather was mild for November so it was a little too warm). Pricing was...on the high side but NFNN …. (Normal for North Norfolk).

We had a wonderful meal here delicious food, the kind you don’t want to eat too quickly it’s so good. Friendly, efficient service too. Great stuff!
