Don't be fooled by the exterior this is quality food. Everything was prepared precisely to my expectations. The calamari was was lightly breaded, tasty and perfectly cooked...practically melted in my mouth. The sweet potato fries were crispy on theoutside,soft inside, and retained their consistency throughput the entire meal. The clam chowder is as advertised and among thebest I've eaten. After reading great reviews, my wife and I decided to give this restaurant a try. We shared the 4-piece halibut fish and chips and a large bowl of clam chowder. The prices were a bit high at $24 for the fish and chips and $11 for the chowder. The halibut pieces were small and heavily breaded, about 4x2 inches in size. The large chowder was just a slightly bigger paper cup compared to the small size. The halibut tasted good, but not outstanding. The chowder was also good, but lacked enough clams and had too many potato chunks. The french fries were excellent, with a crispy coating. Overall, we left full and satisfied, but we had higher expectations based on the rave reviews we had read.
I had heard good things about the Chowder Stop so stopped in during lunch (12:30 on a weekday) and the they were very busy. There was a wait for tables. Note, they close from 11-12pm to change over from breakfast to lunch. I ordered a togo order ofchowder/grill cheese and waited outside in the alley until called. The wait wasn't too bad for as busy as they were. Thechowder was solid, but a little too black peppery for my taste to give 5 stars. The beach is just down the street so thescenery was very nice. I really enjoy this restaurant. I have visited it multiple times before. During my most recent visit, it appeared that they were understaffed. There was only one server, one person manning the counter and taking orders, and two individuals in the kitchen, although I am not sure of their specific roles. However, despite being short-staffed, all employees were working diligently. The food was fantastic, as always.
Excellent! Coming from New England it's always interesting to have chowder but it was great!! Small serving was good sized. Along with a ham and cheese panini I needed a take home container! Chowder had great flavor and plenty of clams in it. Kimi was great! Busy day she was the only server but was pleasant, attentive and quick!
The chef on the frier is a wizard. Everything they dropped into that golden oil can out perfectly amazing. The fries, both regular and sweet potato were perfectly crisp on the outside and smooth inside. The halibut was again perfectly cooked with alight crust! Their chowder was heavy with flavor. My wife loved it!

Everything we ordered was delicious enormous portions. Cute little hole in the wall, definitely worth it. Friendly staff. They didn?t have a kids menu, can easily split a meal between 2 kids.
