I sought out Gem Fish Chips specifically because of the online fantastic reviews. I was so gutted when I rocked up on Tuesday night and they were closed. But, I rocked up again Wednesday evening and was so glad I did. Riva and Sean are so warm and welcoming. We had a lovely chat while Sean cooked the Cod and Chips to order. He even gave us a free tub of his new signature gluten free curry sauce to try! DIVINE. Everything was cooked to perfection. The batter was crispy but not too fatty. The fish was flaky and so tasty. We had heard that this restaurant was known for having delicious gluten-free fish and chips, and they definitely lived up to their reputation! We decided to dine in the restaurant and noticed that there was a constant flow of phone calls and deliveries, including gluten-free options. The service was good, although our order did take a bit longer to arrive, likely due to their careful handling to prevent cross-contamination with other orders and their busy schedule. We didn't mind the wait as we weren't in a hurry. If we find ourselves in the area again, we would definitely come back to this restaurant.
I'm almost reluctant to write this as I worry the place will be so busy if word gets out that I'll find it hard to get a look in... Having tried many in the area, this has become our go to fish and chip shop in Falmouth. It's the best tasting by far and always fresh. Delivered to our hard to find flat by the redoutable Steve our xl cod were hot and tasty roll on Wednesday for the next opening : I'm sad they no longer offer onion rings on the delivery menu and pea fritters would be a great addition along with offering batter scraps for us afficionados of their joyous batter
Rang in my order for gluten free cod chips and onion rings it was the best fish chips I’ve had since becoming a coeliac and being able to get GF onion rings was a real treat! They were very aware of cross contamination, using clean tongs, etc. Also had the option of GF cinder vinegar. My non coeliac family member had the regular cod chips, said it was the nicest in Falmouth! Praise all round. Staff were very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. We found this place by chance on the way back to our car after a long day of brilliant river trips. We decided to 'give it a go ' and were really pleased that we did. The fish tasted absolutely fresh, had crispy light batter and was not at all greasy. Chips and mushy peas were fine too. Service was very friendly, and quite fast enough considering the steady stream of takeaways going on at the same time. We 'll definitely visit again when next in Falmouth.
Excellent Haddock Chips. Gorgeous creamy flakes of perfectly prepared haddock complimented by really well cooked chippy chips. Dined with 2 adults and 2 kids. Dined here pre pandemic in 2019 and was so impressed we made a point of returning again when we returned to Cornwall this summer Restaurant is basic but clean, and was really quiet although the takeout seemed really busy. Staff friendly and service very good. Highly Recommended
Took the other half of for a nice fish& chips, but the usual place was closed. Have heard good things about the Gem recently so thought we would try it out. We weren't disappointed, as we were greeted with friendly service and good food. The fish and chips were great, and the missus had a veggie pie and chips, which got a thumbs up to! Definitely will be back for more soon!
Good old fashioned fish and chips cooked in beef dripping, (although they also offer a veggie option) great service in a pleasant atmosphere. The new owner explained he is sourcing local ingredients where possible which is great. Better than shipping things across the country. Last night, I called the restaurant and ordered gluten free cod and chips. I picked up my order 30 minutes later. The staff were very friendly and the food was good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
