My husband and I live 16 miles up the coast. We spent the day cove and beach hopping, and ended up in St Mawes at dinner time. We popped in on the off chance of a table and were happily told they could accommodate us. We had cocktails followed by a three course meal and two glasses of wine (one of which an expensive but delicious dessert wine). The food was exceptional. The bill was £290, so definitely on the expensive side, but the staff, decor and food were all extremely high quality. We were also pretty scruffy (having only planned a day of sightseeing) and nobody other than the couple seated next to us looked down their nose at us, especially not the staff. This restaurant is not dog-friendly. Nearby activities are mentioned in Michelin, but they need to reassess their policy, especially for the outdoor terrace. It is easily accessible from anywhere in St. Mawes. The hotel has 3 rooms and a service rating of 3. The location is great with a beautiful view as a highlight of the hotel.
The turndown service never showed up. There were kids partying on the beach late into the night. The bar service was friendly but not very helpful. Overall, not worth the expense. Perhaps if you are staying in St Mawes, this is the kind of experience you are looking for. From, another fellow oversized Volvo driver.
Over the past few years, 3 of us have taken Prosecco each year on the veranda, with our little dog. Dogs weren’t allowed inside but outside. This year we were turned away. The restaurant is located in a fabulous location with a great staff. We had lunch there today and the food was excellent. It was a lovely day in St Mawes. The service was top-notch and the location was perfect. The hotel itself was luxurious with a great view and offered great value.
