I can not praise The Riverside at Aymestrey enough, from the warm welcome, to the impeccable service exemplary food, this pub, with rooms is a pure delight! We stayed at the pub during a busy Bank Holiday, Sunday, where along with normal guests, the pub was hosting a large party. However, despite a relatively small team, service was exceptional! the main man, George, clearly knows how to run a successful efficient team. The establishment has a lot of character and is located in a beautiful area. I have dined at many places with similar accolades, so I feel confident in sharing my opinion. The open steak sandwich was delicious, with perfectly cooked lean steak and tasty chips. However, I noticed that the portion sizes varied from my previous visit, with smaller portions of both chips and toppings this time around. It was disappointing to feel short-changed as a customer when expecting the same quality and quantity of food.
I also tried the Sunday lunch here and was disappointed with the cauliflower puree instead of actual cauliflower on the plate. Surprisingly, the restaurant only offers bottled soft drinks...
We managed to book a table on a day when a wedding party was also dining 40 for lunch followed by 120 for the evening! But not a problem our lunch service which was efficient and friendly. The food choice was good and the food was well cooked and presented really well. We opted for the duck which was delicious as were the desserts chocolate delice (very rich albeit cut trough by the sorbet) and the custard mousse delightful. The venue/building is very attractive and the location next to the river Lugg adds to the atmosphere. A nice place even just for a coffee, but an essential venue for any foodie. Enjoy……
Amazing food, terrific service, really pleased to show a visitor from a capital city (Edinburgh) what our not so hidden gems can do. The young lads running the tables for us were attentive and thorough and the food was great. New sticky lamb starter was great and the dessert cider with cheese just a revelation. A lesson to other restaurants in Herefordshire OPEN ON A MONDAY !

I dined at this restaurant in April and will definitely be returning. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly, and the service was excellent. Can't wait to visit again!
An excellent place to stay for a weekend away. Great service from George and his team and the food was superb. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed.
