The Social - Tisch resevieren

I hate to bash a small business, but the issues with this place were so numerous and serious that I don 't want others to go through the same experience I had. This is the most critical of the 100+ reviews I 've written, but let me start with the positive. It has off street parking, is convenient for walking downtown, and the mattress was acceptable. That 's it. That 's every positive point I could find on the Inn at Montpelier. Our check in process almost didn 't happen. We couldn 't find anyone. The positive: The room was very large and the location is great. I'll just highlight some negatives: No one around, deserted, however over our three day stay I encountered three staff members and all were polite. Absolutely needs to closed for six months for renovation, updating, etc. The bathroom was the smallest I have ever encountered and the only amenities were shampoo, conditioner and one bar of soap, so you had to move it between the sink and the shower which actually only involved turning around. This establishment may have been a good choice before the pandemic, but currently falls short, especially considering the high price of over $300 per night per room. There are not enough staff members, resulting in the closure of the restaurant. As a bed and breakfast, one would expect a better breakfast than what is offered at many basic hotels. The breakfast consisted of quiche and scones, with the need for guests to heat them up themselves in a microwave. The rooms are not well-maintained, although they are clean. We went on a last minute foliage trip! Packed a bag in case we decided to spend night! I knew in peak weekend finding a hotel would be few and far between! I won’t go into how my husband doesn’t think you need reservations lol! As we were driving by, he said “ Want to see if they have a room?” Looked lovely, so I said sure! They had one room left! I couldn’t believe it! I couldn’t believe the price! But, hey, luck was with us! Lets just say the place isn’t the cleanest, and our million dollar room wasn’t ANYTHING but a place to sleep. This inn is not up to par. We stayed in a superior king room for one night and it was too long. The carpets were dirty and stained, wallpaper was peeling in multiple places, the WiFi was unreliable (we had to use our cell phones for internet), the bed sheets didn't fit properly, the bath towels were frayed, there was a missing shelf in the bathroom with brackets still in place, only one bar of soap provided, lampshades were stained, and breakfast was disappointing with hard scones, sad apples, cold quiche, crumbs on the table, garbage on the buffet, and a stained tablecloth with no napkins. The list goes on, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Despite ongoing renovations, my room at the front of the inn was not affected and I had an excellent stay. Room #2 was spacious, clean, and had a very comfortable bed. There was also an alcove with a single bed for a third person. I appreciated the separate heat control in the bathroom. The inn is conveniently located in town, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The innkeepers I met were friendly and helpful. There is a construction project next door, which started early in the morning. Hopefully, it will be completed before it's necessary to open the windows.

We had The Social as the caterer for our wedding in Vermont. We went with a buffet style dinner and full bar. The food was amazing! We had many dietary restrictions (GF, non-dairy, etc. and The Social was able to accommodate all of our requests. The bar had plenty of variety and somehow offered Heady Topper (still in shock that we had Heady Topper at the wedding! . The bar manager also helped us develop signature cocktails which all our guests loved.Special thanks to Thomas for coordinating and helping us pull everything together!

This used to be one of our favorite spots for 12-14 years? But, we will not go back. Run down, broken ice machines. No one around to help. No sugar or creamer near coffee machine. Restaurant is new, but terrible cuisine: overly salted filet mignonette, pan-seared scallops were well-done; garlic potatoes without garlic; under-done roasted cauliflower. They took simple breKfast down, because they thought we had left at 9:30! So, they had to bring everything back out. Inside decor is tacky. Porch is still the nicest aspect. I thought of spending time writing a clever review of how awful this place is, but I don't have the stamina. I never write reviews. Do not go here. Even if its the only room around and you really need a room. Stay in your car instead. Horrible. Just horrible.

The room thermostat was broken and it was cold!!! Apparently the vacuum couldn’t reach around the bed. The exterior door to go outside is dirty. The bathroom window had a sheer curtain, no blinds. This place could be a gem but it needs a lot of TLC.
