The girl carving the meat appeared to be unhappy and distracted. She disappeared twice, causing a long queue to form and leaving us uninformed about the delay. As a result, half of our family had finished their meals before the rest of us were served. The portions were small initially, but improved when a different chef took over. The quality of the beef was not great, but the other meats were good. There were limited dessert options for gluten-free diners. The waitress was friendly and efficient. Overall, we were disappointed with our experience at the restaurant, although it is usually a convenient meeting spot for our group of 12.
This restaurant is perfect for a quick bite to eat, or should I say a hearty meal. The charming old building, formerly known as the Black Eagle pub, is much nicer than the generic prefabricated buildings. The food was delicious, especially the sticky toffee pudding with custard which was the best I've ever had, even though I don't typically enjoy sticky toffee pudding. The staff were all wonderful. It's a great place to spend a morning or afternoon, especially if you also visit the Polhill Garden Centre across the road. Alternatively, you can just head to Toby's to fill up your stomach.
First visit to this toby and won’t be the last. We were in a large party and the manager kindly put us all in one area which we really appreciated. Our server was lovely and very attentive. Food was nice and the restaurant wasn’t over busy so it felt nice and relaxing. No mega que to get your food..beef was nice. Every one had a lovely meal and fab time. The manager was super friendly and bar staff all attentive. Top marks!
Another good meal with a good choice of vegetables. The place was full which is a good sign as this Carvery is always welcoming and has a large car park. The only reason it got 4 stars (nearly the full 5) was because the queueing time was unsatisfactory but the serving staff were great when it got to your turn. May have been a coach party had arrived at the same time as my party.
