In all our years of living in France and before that visiting the country I have never had such a lovely selection of veg cooked perfectly with a main course now Tomate et Chocolat has managed it. For that alone I give this an Excellent review. We both had the Chocolat menu and the meat platter was excellent. The waiter appeared gruff at the start but he is great and has a lovely humour. My only little criticisms are 1. there needs to be more than one Tomate chalk menu board, no sooner had we started reading it when it was whisked away to another table, 2. the crepes had no taste of Grand Marnier. We have quite a few vegetarian friends so it would be good to see a vegetarian choice on the me...
A restaurant with simple food done with finesse and care. There was a daily menu that suited the season and provided a choice of stater, mains and dessert. A wine list of carefully chosen regional wines complemented the food well. From the the jocular waiter to the busy kitchen, which is open to view, this is bright and cheery spot for lunch and justifiably full. Very good value. The chilled apricot compote with ice cream was a delight.
Our last evening in Nevers and we wanted a memorable meal. We did not regret coming here and enjoyed the menu de jour at good value. We arrived just in time to secure a table without a reservation and was well treated by the staff. Good was great value for money. Recommended.
The restaurant was filled when we arrived for lunch and for good reason. The food was superb and beautifully presented. The ambience was very informal, and the tasting menus of 16 euros to 35 euros fairly priced. Creative dishes for every palate. Highly recommended
