Woodman's Of Essex

You come to Cape Ann, you come to Woodman’s! Them’s the rules or if they’re not, they ought to be. Lobster roll was fresh the lobster (and a lot of it) was cooked just right. Tender moist, not chewy. Good end-of-season corn-on-the-cob. And y’know Woodman’s fries don’t get nearly the praise they deserve. That lovely double-fried crunchiness! The place was hopping, which is not surprising, But their ordering and serving process is a finely tuned machine. Read the board while you’re in line, hang onto your receipt wait for your number to be called. Some places are institutions just because they manage to outlast the others. Woodman’s is because they’ve figured out how to make consistently tasty...

I visited this restaurant while in town from Boise, Idaho, to see my grandparents. They took me here after our river cruise, and I was really impressed with the food. The only thing I would mention is that the shrimp was breaded and fried but didn't have the crunchy texture I expected; however, it was still delicious. The portion sizes were incredibly generous—huge, in fact! My grandparents ordered the clams, and the tartar sauce was fantastic, too! One small concern is that the staff could be more present in the dining area, as most of the tables were a bit dirty with crumbs and sauce scattered about. It wasn't a big issue, just something I noticed. Overall, it was a great experience!

Ranks among the best meals I ever had! I absolutely love that they fry everything in pig lard because that is a natural fat that was not made by man in a factory. I believe that helps the great taste of their food. I was in Boston to see a Red Sox/White Sox game and see Fenway. I had some great meals in Boston but had to take the drive to Essex (about a 25 minute drive) and we were so happy we did. The workers also work very hard to get the food done to perfection and offer a friendly service. Thank you so much Woodman family for such a memorable meal!

This restaurant is a true haven for those with celiac disease! Every dish is fried in gluten-free oil, which is a huge relief. Our waiter, who is also celiac, assured me that everything on the menu is completely gluten-free, making it a paradise for anyone with gluten sensitivities. The food itself is delicious and offers some unique options. We ordered a variety of fried dishes, and I was thrilled to be able to eat everything without worry. Highly recommended! Very good service and the right New England seafood restaurant atmosphere. Clams were top notch, onion rings fantastic. I prefer a thick chowder to the soupy chowder served here. The crab cake's were just breading and not very good. Overall a good experience but more expensive than similar restaurants. With drinks it was $80+. Similar options at other good seafood restaurant would usually be $50ish.

What a spectacular place, I loved the delicious food, a very nice place to come with family, friends, etc. A very nice place, clean. The customer service is very good. For me, I recommend the lobster with butter and the fried clams, delicious. It has a large and free parking lot, and you can eat inside the premises or outside, country style.

The best lobster rolls we've had so far! The place is notably clean and conveniently located on the road in Essex, easily noticeable while driving by. There's a spacious tent at the back of the house that provides lovely shade from the sun.

Very happy with their food here but was shocked to see my Scallops cut in half, when I want Scallops I want them whole too much breading when cut in half

Iconic Woodman's. Great food in a rustic setting. Go for the food.
